    Who here details small planes?

Thanks for the in depth reply Legacykid. By no means am I trying to just watch a few videos and learn on my own. It's something I'd like to work toward if it sounds like a good fit. I've already talked to Renny about it but it sounds like personal hands on training has to happen first. The...

Buff and Shine Giveaway for July

Please count me in. Around 80% of the pads I use are from Buff and Shine. I have mostly foam B&S pads so I'd like to give these MF ones a try. I get a lot of neglected cars, and have a hazy black truck coming in a couple weeks. Thanks for the consideration. -Rob

    Who here details small planes?

I have several small airports near me which I drive past everyday. I'd like to add detailing a plane to my bucket list. I would like to get info straight from the source. The planes near me are small Cessna type. Id like to know about a maintenance program, what to not touch, and so on. I...

I'm moving - MASS to NH pricing and other questions

Since you're asking for opinions, I'll give you mine. To me an AIO is just a quick refresh for the paint. I don't call it a 1 step because the fillers in the AIO will hide some imperfections. AIO is for my budget friendly customers. For me a 1 step is either a medium cut polish/pad combo to...

    Overworking a job

For interiors, I never promise I'll get stains out. Too many variables and I let them know it. I'll tell them I can spend X amount of time on it (if it's a budget detail) and do my best. This gives me some breathing room in case it isn't perfect. The longer the stain sits, the harder it is to...

    Help pricing a boat

Most people charge by the foot with boats. I've seen rates ranging from $20-35 a foot. That usually only involves a one step polish and then sealant though. I would see if you can do a test spot first, so you know how much time/product it will take to complete it. Text the 50/50 photo to your...

Do you attend car shows in an attempt for new business?

Wow lots of negativity. First off don't set your expectations that you'll walk away with a large contract and you're good. It's a way to refine your skills first and pick up business second. If the show is free, then why not attend as many as you can? Practice/perfect talking and LISTENING...

    Memorial Day Order Question

I've had the opposite experience this time around, but I'll leave it at that since it may get resolved. Happy for the rest of you though.

    Detailing Packages Help!!

I would offer a range. For example $179-199. " depends on condition of vehicle". Don't lock in the price until you see it, but you can still give them a general idea. Be prepared to tell them why it may cost more. Tree sap, excessive bird bombs, pet hair, water spots, tar. Those extra things...

    Upselling techniques?

Re: Up selling tricks When someone comes in for a quote or asks about detailing in general, I'll be sure to drop some helpful info. I keep it casual. I'll discuss what I can do and perhaps point out their hazy headlights or a few blemishes. All of them are multiple vehicle owners, so something...

    Drying aid clarification

Well the paint will be decontaminated from the clay mitt so no need to worry. If there is wax from a drying aid left behind, HD Speed will simply remove it.

What is a Spray Quik Detailer used for?

Yep, same one they keep in the door compartment of their car which gets used for wiping dust off the dash. But their eyes are telling their brain that it's "shiny".

What is a Spray Quik Detailer used for?

QD is for people making themselves look cool at car shows when in actuality they're probably putting light scratches in the paint if not done properly. Oh and it generates sales at Pep Boys.

Tesla Service Detailer in desperate need of help with this paint!

Is the MF towel in the second pic, the one you use for wipe downs? The stitched edges and short nap remind me of the MF towels I used when I first started out, and now I use them on wheels or anything I don't care about. Perhaps that's contributing to some of the headache? I've yet to see high...

    Surprise customers

If you want to polish cars as part of learning the detailing business then only offer AIO until you get better with paint correction. An AIO isn't meant to get it perfect and is a good basic package to offer for someone new. The confidence will come when you've done a few dozen cars.

    Surprise customers

Just be aware of those customers who like to dangle the carrot like that. It sounds like "if you do a bad ass job for a price I like, I may offer a word to a guy who wants cheap labor". Nevertheless it's good practice. Just do the best you can. Nobody learns by getting everything perfect the...
