This damage was caused by the body shop who painted the hood and bumper and trunk lid. Along with the overspray, they hit the entire car with the rotary buffer and really did some serious damage. Thanks!

The world will end...just kidding, the oils from the polish can hide defects that you thought you removed , and you just want the paint to be clean before you apply anything. For sealants, it can create a bonding problem as they are meant to be applied to bare paint.

Looks like you have your work cut out. I noticed a good amount of orange peel in one of the pictures, so at least you have plenty of paint to work with (assuming the paint is original).
