Website Up - Thoughts and Critiques?

Thanks! I just liked your page too! I agree on the photos, I wasn't sure if I should just put up "stock" photos of nice clean cars or if that would be misleading? I will continue to add cars that I detail, including my own rigs (which I'm doing this week), but I don't have many pics available...

Good call. I'll put a placeholder image there for now.

Website Up - Thoughts and Critiques?

Definitely on the facebook stuff. I have a vacation rental too, and get lots of stuff from FB. I'm hoping to get my facebook page "released" tomorrow. It's setup, just haven't pushed it out yet. Keep it coming, love the feedback! Thanks!

Website Up - Thoughts and Critiques?

The "guy" is actually a hand drawn rendering, not clip art, but I know what you're saying. My thought was this...branding. I wanted something that people would remember, even if not everyone likes it, when you see the "monkey" you remember him. I actually went back and forth on doing the...

Website Up - Thoughts and Critiques?

Working on some now, and will have some more tomorrow to put up. I haven't really released the site yet, just getting some insider critiques at this point. Do you mean on the actual content pages, beyond the photo gallery?

Website Up - Thoughts and Critiques?

Just finished getting the first revision of my website up and running. I'm a developer, have been for 15 years, so it's nice to not have to pay anyone for this. I'm pretty happy with the look and feel, but I might be missing something since the detailing business is new to me. I'm...

After reading Rennys book, I changed my service menu

I like it, I'm doing the same from the book, more or less. BTW, the right nav isn't too big of a deal, in my opinion. I've owned a web development company for about 15 years. While many will expect the left or top nav, it's pretty easy to find where it is. I checked it on my iphone as well, and...

Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

I figured I'd post to this as well. 1) Looks like a good idea to just discount for those that you don't have to drive to. You could charge a fee for shuttling, or I think I'd build it in. 2 and 3) From what I read on this and another forum is that you should really never drive the customer...

Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

Thanks to everyone, sounds like this might be the way to go. A couple of follow up questions: 1) So, do I make a big deal out of my location just to make sure it's clear? I don't want people canceling on me. The farthest someone might come would be about 20 miles or so. How do I go about...

Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

Thanks, the main house is pretty nice too, so as long as I keep things pretty organized, it looks really professional. Looks like you're in Orlando. I have a vacation rental in Davenport, and I'm coming down for Mike's training in May. Love it down there, not quite as cold! ;->

Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

Thanks! I built it myself, so I'm pretty proud of it. It's not nearly that clean right now, but it definitely gets used. Do you think customers would mind leaving their cars there?

Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

Cool, sounds great. Now, the $64000 question, in my case, would you guys still go mobile, or do that as a secondary service and go fixed. Here's my shop. I'm in a rural area, but Montana is sort of that way anyway, so it's not as backwoodsy as you'd think. I have a great shop, 1200', lift in...

Getting Customer Cars to Home-Based Shop

I'm going to be mobile, for the most part, but if I end up doing heavy duty work like paint correction and stuff that takes more than a few hours, I'd like to be able to use my shop. I have a 1200' shop at my house, so plenty of room. I'm in a rural area, though, so it would probably take most...

    Atttn: Detail website owners!!

I've been in the web development business for 15 years (just getting going on detailing instead, get me out from behind the desk). You don't need private registration, imho, it's a waste of money. Also, stick with someone like godaddy for registrations, and you can search for "godaddy coupon,"...

If you want to make money in this business you must read Renny Doyle's book.

Just bought the book on Kindle ($10) and read a bunch last night, it's very good. I've been in business for myself for 15 years, and still can take away some ideas and info on the business side. First time going into the detailing business, though, and really excited. The book will be...

How much does it cost to be fully mobile?

It would be pretty difficult to do ONR here in my area I think, other than maybe a month out of the summer. My personal vehicle right now is covered with road dirt from melting snow, and it's thick enough I wouldn't touch it without pressure washing first, even though it's not a mud-bog issue.

    Mobile Guys - Big Trailers

Trailers are expensive here, I have to go to Idaho Falls to get that type, and those are the cheapest around. Fancy a trip to Yellowstone? You can bring me a TX trailer. ;-> Your new one is what, 6x10, 5x10? KD

    Mobile Guys - Big Trailers

This is a pretty small trailer, but for basic supplies, generator (3500w), pressure washer, totes, and a 55gallon water tank (recycled plastic drum), It might work. The price is right, and it's ultra light. It'll take about 1000lbs of stuff. Pressure washer -70lb Gennie - 100lb 50gal Water -...

    Mobile Guys - Big Trailers

Nice trailer...too bad I don't live down there, I bet that thing was a great deal. They want a premium here locally, so I'd have to drive about 4 hours to go pick one up (that's how I got this one.) That's pretty much what I'm thinking though. I'm also considering picking up an inexpensive...

    Mobile Guys - Big Trailers

I pull with my Yukon XL Denali. If it weren't for the generator, I might just use it, but it's way to nice to be loading it up with junk. I'm seeing some trailers I can pick up new (not many out here, everyone uses them) in 5x8 and 4x8 for $1700 or so. Might be worth the investment. I've...
