Great review. I pretty much had the same conclusion when I first brought one about a year ago. You have to pour fast or product from the 1 gallon container would leak into the proportioner.
I believe all Merzerna polishes are DAT (diminishing).
SF-3500 (formerly SF-4000) is a fine polish. It'll remove light imperfection but its main purpose is gloss.
Did you guys place an order yet? I placed my "pre-order" on Jan. 3rd and got my shipping confirmation on Jan. 5th. I'm in California so it took a few days but received it on Jan. 8th.
If you're looking to order I'd say just do it and it'll probably ship soon.
It's recommended to wash them first. The first was or two some of the dye will come off.
If you got a few different colors I'd recommend washing them separately unless you don't care about dye transfer/discoloration.

Do you happen to be using an Apple device? I have an issue where I can only add 1 item to cart and everything added after replaces what's in the cart.
