This is the kind of work I get a lot of.

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I don't know what you mean by a partial restoration....? I've been a professional automotive technician for 22 years and for over 2 years now have been doing headlights and minor work for a few small used car dealers on weekends, just for some extra spending money. They get cars in all the time...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Will this work on headlights that are 75% clear(because the original coating is still good) but it has peeled off the top 25%? I've tried a few of the stripper type, done in 5 minutes products, and the ones I tried didn't work.

I've looked at a few of these and $100 is a very conservative number. Can you even purchase just the coating by itself? I thought you had to buy their whole system to be able to obtain the coating.....?

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Hotrod has already done a spar vs Opticoat test and it appeared that spar won. I wonder what other user-friendly, affordable coatings there are for people who don't work in a shop environment? Especially something that can be guaranteed for 3 years.(without spraying 2 coats of clear) ????

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I have noticed the same thing with my customers. If they take care of them and keep them in a garage or out of direct sunlight often, they last much longer than those which are neglected. Thanks Hot Rod

    Headlight restoration 50/50.

Try it and let us all know.....lol (just kiddin') I've heard people on here only sanding them to 1500 and then coating them. I think to some extent, it's individual preference. I imagine 2500 would be fine. I personally take them to 3000 though.

    Headlight restoration 50/50.

I don't know what to tell you. I live in Daytona Beach Florida and only let them cure about an hour or two before the owners usually want to drive them home. I've never had any problems like you describe.

    Headlight restoration 50/50.

ray6......in the last post you sent me you said, "If in fact you really have removed the old coating, you're dealing with the natural hardness of the polycarbonate which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer" but in the post above you say, "There's not too much difference in the...

They shouldn't spot if the spar has cured properly. How long do you allow for them to cure?

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

I've noticed the same thing before also. I always buy a new can if I notice it turning darker. Don't mess with the old stuff. As ray says, "Don't risk it"!

    Headlight restoration 50/50.

The only reason I asked about this is because some headlights, after removing the oem coating, it seems harder to remove some deeper scratches....compared to other lenses. Maybe its just because the harder coating takes harder force to remove, thus causing deeper grooves in the lens itself.

I'm curious about that stripping chemical myself. I haven't seen anything yet that works like that. Having this chemical could save me a lot of time and back pain...lol

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

How long was it after applying the spar mix, that the lenses got rained on?

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Yes, I agree ray6......They can look like brand new if you follow the method spelled out on here(another thread) where the AutoGeek rep actually removed the lights from the vehicle, sanded them and sprayed them(I think with two coats of clear). But most people don't want to spend over $100 on...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I'm guessing that it would. I've gone to a 60/40 mix myself......although I have noticed that some Makes/Models don't seem to last as long as others, no matter what kind of coating you put on. The Chrysler PT Cruiser is one.....seems like you see a ton of those headlights are bad also. The older...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

The main reason to use the particular specified brand and exact type of the Helmsman Spar Cleargloss is because of the UV protection, has outdoor application and that it comes in "clear gloss". I've heard of people having problems when they bought any other types. I'm not sure why people are...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

As GP49 says..........What I've found out with my own lights is that....1. Some waxes do tend to remove and/or degrade the spar....2. Some waxes seem to actually start the yellowing process that you are trying to fix, just by applying them. I've heard a few say that they use Mequiars Plastix...
