    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Another thing that I've noticed recently is that it seems some makes/models are more prone to have the swirl marks. I don't know if it is the compounds used in the particular composites used in the lenses or what.....but I have noticed some certainly are more prone to swirls and scratches from...

    Headlight restoration 50/50.

Lou.....it is a 50% spar 50% Mineral spirits mix. I use 1 tablespoon of each for one set of lights. Mine dry to the touch(here in Florida, in the sun) after about 1 hour or so BUT, I always tell my customer's not to touch them or get them wet at least till the next day just to be sure. I figure...

Here are a few pics of a Mitsubishi Eclipse I did this afternoon. I don't know why but this model/bodystyle/year seems to always make me work harder. They came out good but I had to really work for that $$$$$.....lol

Thats what I would do. About your swirl marks in a previous post......if I get a really oxidized set of headlamps....I will sand with an 800 disc using my drill and then hand sand with wet 800 paper, 1000, 1500 and 3000....then spar 50/50. No more swirl marks. I used to have swirl marks too...

93fox........I did notice that my source for all of my other wet/dry sandpaper sheets also has 3000 for $15.00 per box of 50 (9' X 11") ....so I may try that also although I really do like how the trizact disc really improves the clarity. I'm not sure if the paper will give the same affect. For...

It takes practice to lay down the spar. I still miss spots every now and then. You just have to wipe it off quickly before it dries with mineral spirits. If it dries, it's easy to remove with 1500. Then do 3000 and redo. (just my take on it)

I hand sand(wet), like 93fox. I DO spend the $$$ on the 3M 3000 grit Trizact 3" discs with a angle drill to finish before spar coating though. I can get several lenses out of one disc before its shot.

I charge $40 for two headlamp lenses. If they want seperate turn signal lenses....it's more. This does also works great on stop lamp lenses. I did a buddy of mine's old chevy truck stop lamp lenses and they came out awesome. He was overjoyed! I've been hand sanding every step now and found a...

Good info Oscar......I've switched to your method and having good luck. I've noticed that the Minwax gets old after a month or so and ends up turning into these funky streaks a few months later. It also gets darker in the can. When I get a new can, no more problems. (and yes I keep the lid on at...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

See below... I've changed my methods and do most of mine by hand now (especially when it goes to a point) Try 800, 1000, 1500 and then drill with 3000 3m Trizact. Then apply new coating of your choice. Sand everything wet and horizontally. Or use the drill with 800 to get rid of the worst...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

mr. fusion......Wow! Your quick! lol It definately takes me longer, but the more I do, the better and quicker I become. I tried that Griots 3" machine and didn't care for it. (just my taste) I had a ton of swirl marks that I ended up hand sanding out later when they showed up during the 3000...

I was hoping that others would read this and contribute some ideas as to how to get rid of the haze. Did you redo the lights yet? If so, how did they come out and what process/products did you use? I am curious because I have one of these too. Thanks!

I agree with all of this. Buying someone new factory BMW headlamps is not right. Offering to re-do them for free and spending extra time on sanding is also what I would do. Some lights are just flawed and only get...so good. I have a BMW that came out like this too. I might be in the position...
