Gel Coat Oxidization Removal - How much to charge?

Gel Coat Oxidization Removal - How much to charge? I've been asked to quote on what the owner feels will be a basic polish on a 27 foot boat. The owner says that it isn't badly oxidized and won't need compounding so I gave him a ballpark quote based on this. It's been kept under a roof most...

    Paint Defects

Thanks for all the responses. At least one of the spots was clayed, compounded and polished. (M105 on orange and 205 on white) I guess my wife will continue not even knowing these spots are there. (really can't believe this - they bug me and I don't even drive the car)

    Paint Defects

Will wetsanding, compound and polish lessen it, or has the clear been damaged to the extent that nothing can be done without a major repair? Thanks

    Paint Defects

If you look closely it seems like lots of interconnected lines of defect with the paint between them intact. Wouldn't it be more of a uniform stain over the entire area if it were bird etchings? (Really hoping to be wrong here since clearcoat failure I think will be mpre of a major repair)...

    Paint Defects

Car is a 2002 Accord. Unstable clear is what I was afraid of and why I've been holding off a repair. I'll crop this photo and post using high resolution tomorrow. If needed I can get a closer picture in a few days. Merry Christmas / Happy holidays to all! Sent from my SGH-I747M using AG Online

    Paint Defects

These defects were on the car when I bought it second hand. Can someone tell me what they are and what caused them? I'm guessing I'll need to wetsand with 3000 or 2500 then compound / polish? Not knowing what they are has been making me hold off. The car has a couple simular spots. Thanks...

Clear Coat Spray from Local Auto parts Stores?

My unfortunate experience was that the "clear coat" wasn't clear at all. Perhaps not a problem depending on the color of your car. My car being white shows very noticeable yellow where the new clear is. This clear was regular department store clear, I'm told products like PPG clear are the...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

They tried to sell me Methyl Hydrate at a Mom & Pop store saying that it's basically the same thing. Definitely similar but I'm not convinced. Would Methyl Hydrate be suitable (safe) as a last step cleaner before applying the Spar mix or am I better off sticking with Mineral Spirits? I...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Yesterday I went looking for denatured alcohol and or propanol. Checked the usuals like HD and Lowes for the alcohol. No one new anything about this stuff. Is it under a different name? <Canada> I noticed they don't have the Odorless Mineral Spirits at HD anymore, but I was able to get some...

Solution Finish Review Durability in Extreme Conditions

The Perl looks great with the Perl. I've got a sample size of that I'll give it a try on those pillars maybe next week. I wasn't happy with the durability of the PB that I have so I'm looking for something that darkens and gives me longevity. Not asking for much, just everything!

Solution Finish Review Durability in Extreme Conditions

Cool experiment. I've been curious about this product but it's not so easy to get in Canada. Hearing the comments about smooth plastic makes me wonder if it is any good on window pillars - I suppose not. Something to think about for another long experiment like this may be to do 3 spots, 1...

Pricing / ProcedureDuct Tape removal and Polishing

I couldn't agree more. I turned down a previous customer last week, he thought his daughters 98 BMW lights needed done. I'm not sure if this car has been garaged all the time, but the lights were near mint so I asked him to call me in a couple years if they start deteriorating. I couldn't do...

Pricing / ProcedureDuct Tape removal and Polishing

I'm at a total loss on the Tuct Tape solution as well. There must be some reason like it - although he said the guys who installed it didn't know what the were doing. I've googled a little and found some people confused about the gap around it, perhaps they were trying to close that in...

AG FTW! It was Tuct tape, I got it all removed cleaned up and waxed (top only). The owner decided he wanted the rims done as well. When he came back to the outside parking lot where I was working he was thrilled. I used Goof Off as suggested in another thread. Also used Varsol as suggested...

Thanks everyone, Now I haven't seen the car in person, but when I asked the guy he said it was a convertible and he wanted a hard top --- go figure? I'll try and get some details on that tomorrow. Anyway he had a shop put metal in place but they didn't know how to hold it down while it set...

Pricing / ProcedureDuct Tape removal and Polishing

Thanks, Can you suggest a ballpark number of hours? I'm guessing 2 - 3 for the adhesive removal (never done it before though) and 2 - 3 for quick cleaning, clay and polish? Comments? The guy is going to want to know approx how much ahead of time. Are my numbers close?
