I used to do the same thing but I noticed that they would contaminate other towels in the wash and they wouldn't rinse clean and would always keep some reisdue

I used to mix and match colors as well but now I use a spray (kindaime spray paint) method... The only problem is there are so many dang shades of browns and grays it can be a pain... They are all color coded so it's easy BUT if the overall carpet is faded and you reintroduce the original color...

If you have the ability to carry around a 30 gallon bucket fill it with water some APC and let them soak for an hour while you do the interior and you will see how much of the deep hardened dirt come out .. You should only do this with the rubber backed mats as they dry faster and the MB and BMW...
