    Detailing is hard work

Don't get me wrong. I love seeing the results when I am done with a detail. Also, I do appreciate the exercise. However, after a hot weekend spent detailing, let's just say I appreciate my cozy desk job on Monday morning. Again, kudos to you all who do this as a career.

    Has anyone used zaino?

I haven't used Zaino since the early 2000s, but I remember liking it. The products I tried (don't remember which ones, but I had several) worked well. I have since found less expensive and (IMO) equal or better performers. Are you filling old bottles of M205 with Zaino products?

    Detailing is hard work

Indeed it is! I'm just a hobbyist. I don't know how some of you guys do this for a living and still have energy at the end of the week to do anything else.

    Shop Vac with Blower--any experience

I have a Ridgid shop vac (forget what size) that I got on sale at Home Depot. I believe it was $60 and I'm more than happy with it. I use the vacuum to clean the interior. It has a detachable blower that is portable and gets all the water out of the stubborn nooks and crannies on my Optima...

The "Shinier than Opti-Bond" tire dressing roundup (and trade request)

Lucky I live in SoCal where it rains about two days out of the year. :p

The "Shinier than Opti-Bond" tire dressing roundup (and trade request)

Thanks for the PERL tip fellas! I organized a trade for some Megs Hyper Dressing. If that doesn't perform, I'll give PERL a try.

The "Shinier than Opti-Bond" tire dressing roundup (and trade request)

Optimum products have not let me down so far. After 4 applications (2 on my tires and 2 on the wife's), Opti-Bond Tire Gel is no exception. However, the look it produces isn't quite what I'm looking for, even after two coats. I'm looking for a tire dressing with a bit more sheen: something...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

I met with the body shop manager today and he echoed what the insurance inspector told me earlier this week: the craters are rock chips that were probably always there; apparently I am just now noticing them. The manager introduced me to his best painter who agreed the craters were rock chips...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

The manager told me to wait 30 days before polishing. To be on the safe side, I waited over 50 days by my count from when I last got the car back from the body shop. I sent him a text message before the weekend I planned to start polishing, just to double check that I had waited long enough...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

This will not be my first meeting with the manager. I have been dealing almost exclusively with him since the first time I brought the car back to his shop. He has been very accommodating so far. I plan to show him the damage and explain the following: 1. The craters were not visible until...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

Two things are going to happen before I even consider taking the PC to my paint again: 1) I'm going to show my car to the body shop manager and see what he says about the craters. He may offer to fix them if possible. 2) Circle back with the insurance company and find out what happened with...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

I took my car to the other body shop today and was greeted by an inspector from my insurance company. We went over the hood and spotted the two “craters” in the paint with little effort. I briefly explained the ordeal with the original body shop and asked what the inspector thought. This is a...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

A friend of mine recommended them. He said they did a great job on his car. His car is white though. Maybe his paint is swirled too and he just can't see it. He feels bad for recommending this shop now that he knows what I've been through. I don't think the shop was covering anything up. I...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

Tell me about it! They certainly did mess up. There are actually two small craters in the hood, not far from one another. You can see one of them in this photo I just snapped, under the reflection of the light: I inspected these craters a little more closely. It looks like they were...

    Otc microfiber

CD = compact disc The CD test involves rubbing a microfiber towel on a new CD to give you an idea whether or not the towel will scratch paint. If it scratches the CD I would not use it on paint. As I said in a previous post in this thread, even if a towel didn't scratch a CD, it doesn't...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

Why would OTC products suit me better than the Mirror Glaze line? I know it's only one product in the line, but I found M205 incredibly easy to work with. My understanding of Megs OTC products is that they are more newbie friendly, but OTC polishes for example contain fillers and don't offer...

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

Looking at this: http://www.auto-geek.net/charts/wax-cut-chart-master.htm It appears Megs #9 Swirl Remover is about as aggressive as M205. Should I step up to Scratch X?

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

I got that stuff (whatever it was) off with M205 and a white CCS pad. I'm still dealing with minor swirls and a few very small dents/impressions, which the body shop said they will fix. For the swirls, I tried M205 with white CCS pad. They were less noticeable, but still there. Then I tried...

    Dent repaired... or was it?

Whatever that stuff was came off with a pass of M205 on a white CCS pad.

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

Update: I did a test section and got all of the holograms/buffer trails out and about 95% of the swirls with this process (same process I used on the test section on my wife's car): 1. Wash 2. Clay 3. M205 with white CCS pad 4. KAIO with black CCS pad 5. KSG with red CCS pad...
