    Dent repaired... or was it?

If you've been reading any of my threads recently, you know I've been dealing with a body shop which has done less than satisfactory work. My paint was swirled by them, so they hired a detailer to remove the swirls. The detailer put buffer trails in the hood paint. This weekend, after waiting...

How to remove paint on steering wheel

Clay did the trick! I pulled a small piece from the bar, soaked it in clay lube (diluted ONR), and gently rubbed the paint off the steering wheel. I went over the affected area with 303 Aerospace on a MF towel to get any of the ONR residue off the steering wheel, preventing any stains. The...

Good thing I relied on my sense of touch then. Thanks for your helpful response.

    Otc microfiber

I have two Viking waffle weave towels I got on Amazon for cheap. All the reviews said they pass the CD test, work great for drying or buffing, etc. However, I just don't like the feel of them. The fibers feel very coarse. They did pass the CD test for me, but I won't use them on paint. They...

    Which car wash soap?

I totally forgot about the free wash mitt! Thanks for reminding me!

How to remove paint on steering wheel

Here is a photo. There is a larger (although still quite small) spot of paint near the top of the photo on the steering wheel and two smaller streaks of paint on both sides of the stitching. I ran my finger over the paint spots and they are not perceptible to the touch. I'm thinking the shop...

    Which car wash soap?

Approximately, yes. To be honest, I've never measured. I always "eyeball it." I don't follow recipes or measure ingredients when I cook either. I like to think I have a good eye for approximate quantities. I'm sure some washes I've used less than 1 oz per 5 gallon bucket and other times...

    Which car wash soap?

I'm a big fan of Optimum Car Wash. It has excellent lubricity and it smells wonderful! I have a gallon on the way from AG. I've read great things about Duragloss 901, but I'm happy with Optimum Car Wash. The two cost about the same (depending on where you buy) and I can't imagine a wash...

How to remove paint on steering wheel

It isn't overspray. It doesn't look like they painted with the door open or anything like that. Most likely a shop employee had paint on his hand, didn't wipe his hands clean, didn't put plastic covering on my steering wheel, and moved my car. I didn't even think to try clay. Would clay be...

How to remove paint on steering wheel

Hence my reluctance to take my car back to them for any reason. They put plastic over the driver's seat and floor mats, but not the steering wheel apparently. Thanks for the tips.

How to remove paint on steering wheel

The body shop left a small spot of paint on my steering wheel the first time I picked up the car. I took it back to have them fix a few other things as well and they got it off. The other day I noticed another small spot of paint on the steering wheel. Yes, I am talking about exterior body...

First DA Setup - which pads & compounds for these imperfections?

I did my first test section on my wife's car with the PC 7427xp. I'm sharing my thoughts in this thread: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/63987-thoughts-my-first-da-polishing-session.html#post861513 I'm going to tackle my car over the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Thoughts on my first DA polishing session

This weekend I completed my first ever machine polishing session. I used my new Porter Cable 7424xp DA polisher to do a test section on the trunk lid of my wife’s red 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The purpose of this thread is to document my experience with the PC – both for myself and for anyone...

    Washpads & Washmitts? Swirls etc

I'll throw in another vote for the $6 megs MF mitts. No marring as far as I can tell so far. I use them more like a sponge than a mitt. That is, I grasp it in my hand rather than wearing it. I own 6 of these mitts for different panels/areas on my car and the wife's car.

Body work issues, or am I way too picky?

Great advice, builthatch. Thanks! I've been watching tons of videos here at AG as well as on YouTube. My brother has experience with a PC. He'll be around in a few weeks to supervise/teach me as I operate my new PC for the first time. I'm going to do my wife's car first (test spot, of...
