So, is it the product itself doing this? Or is it the dirt being removed from the car, which in turn, the polymers causing the dirt to remain bonded to the fibres?

I had a Karcher with the turbo lance attachment that would periodically stop spinning. I found if you sprayed a little WD40 into the end of the nozzle it would free up the agitator and restore the orbital movement. Not a long-term fix, but enough to keep you moving.

Out of curiosity, I'd be interested to see what stained wash media looks like as it's something I've never really noticed it in the past.
