    BMW Jet Black- Sigh

Any time I've tried using damp microfibers or misting a car with a dark color trying to avoid marring while removing compound/polish, I've found it leads me to use more pressure as it's actually become HARDER to remove & easier to mar. I will often use 2x the amount of microfibers on dark...

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

I ditched the stock thin 5" backer plate for a new LC 5" backerplate, removed the counter balance gear & reset it, my new CG hex logic 5.5 pads came in. All is well.

Professional paint touch up kits - any experience?

I've recently taken my 'hobby' of buffing on a couple week nights & every weekend a bit more serious and opened my own shop. I have a full time employee running the daily operations, primarily cleaning interiors. I saw what he was doing in his own driveway, with store bought materials and a 15...

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

I haven't. Like I've said, with thinner pads or mf pads, it operates as it should. It's driving me crazy, I've definitely lost a few hours because of it.

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

No, it's progressively gotten worse in the last 15 cars (new pads unless they are thin, struggle to spin too), but I have a pile of pads and can usually find what I need that will work well enough, some times I am finishing down using speed 2/3 and having to work insanely slow to keep it...

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

Thanks Mike, yes my compression washer is still there, I am wondering if it has seen enough though. It's probably been used on 50-70 cars. I seem to get 2-3 complete cars before my pads distort a little and keeping rotation becomes a chore, rather than a natural thing. Which is understandable...

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

I love my Dewalt rotary, I use it majority of the time, there seems to be some times where it's almost ineffective on certain cars. I've ran into a few Mercedes where my rotary did nothing but create heat and generate insane heat and my PC ended up being the life saver, oddly enough. I...

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

The newer RO's work better than the PC with the hex pads or microfiber pads? I can work out swirls and minor scratches faster with my PC than my Rotary for the most part, but I have a more finish-ready paint using my Rotary and over an entire car, I can cut my time almost in half with a rotary...

at war with my 7424xp. Spinning issues

I use a combination of my PC & rotary to buff. There are times where I feel the PC works better and other times where my rotary is the only thing that helps me get home from the shop before 3am. I've recently gone to war with my PC. Only my thin microfiber pads will spin and oscillate. I'm...

PC Problem Trying to narrow it down

In the last 6 months I've recently taken on the task of 3-4 cars a week, if not more. I purchased 2 new XP's and corresponding pad kits. Worked great until I got a few cars in. Pad rotation became harder than ever to maintain or even achieve. I have learned now that pads that have lost their...

Mystery product for scratch /chip repairs?

I do corrections for a local pre-owned dealer and have seen deep paint scratch repairs after the fact and they are EXCELLENT repairs. There was a black Honda Pilot with excessive rock chipping/sand blasting behind the wheels. The dealer asked if I could do anything with it and I said yeah, ruin...

    Pads squeeling/grabby

I'm using a Dewalt rotary polisher and recently I've experienced on some hoods/doors that the pads become very grabby or even squeel. If I mist them they are still grabby, I've tried using more/less product and still experience this issue. Doesn't happen on every car or work surface either.

Moving from PC to DeWalt DWP849X after 9 years..advice and encouragement needed

My issues with polish drying out is related to the heat here. It has been cool for over a week now and I haven't had any issues.

    Mercedes c 320 nightmare

First time I've run into this. It's not unusual for me to run into a door or maybe a hood that was harder to cut/finish than the rest of the car - but I usually can tell when it's coming from the first pass. I was able to get a good cut with the wool, all around the car. But I don't understand...

    Mercedes c 320 nightmare

Finally ran into a nightmare car. Mercedes c320. Black paint. Heavy swirls and holograms. Orange pad and Cg34 hybrid did next to nothing. Wool pad created severe hazing obviously but I tried it on the hood and finished down with Optimum polish II and orange pad. White was creating a haze...

    Good speed for wool?

I've recently begun experimenting with a wool pad. I had a 08 Audi Avant S-line 2.0 that was blue with typical swirling with a solid amount of RIDS buried behind the swirls. I used Chemical Guys V34 Hybrid and 1400rpms with only the pressure of the machine. I had to do 2 complete applications...

High quality production detailing by Mike Phillips

Vast majority of the cars I do are in similar shape, if not worse. I never offer swirl free or scratch free. I've taken photos of similar paint and have before/after photos. They are always excited that I can make the paint shine again and dramatically lessen the amount of defects. I...

Flex 3401 VRG vs. PC 7424xp

You should have a chat with those who schedule this work for you. What are there expectations? Do they just want it to shine or do they want the swirls removed? Show them what you are capable of doing when you have adequate time. However, working for a dealership who likely just wants the car...
