You won't regret the smaller pads, but the interchangeable backing plates seem to have gone the way of the DoDo. You can get the smaller Lake Country plate, but it's still a wrench change to swap out. I was told when I ordered mine a few weeks ago that they'd had issues with the larger size...

I can't speak for the polishes that come with the BOSS system, but their Machine Polish 1-4 you can do a lot better elsewhere. A lot of their other products are pretty good - their Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner, Rubber Cleaner, Interior Cleaner etc I like a lot.
