Some DIY bodywork/ paintwork with the help of a friend...

LOL We had to add 2 more filters. It still sucks the walls in quite a bit but it will do. We do plan to respray color across the top, but not the back panel. Plan to blend that so that it blends into an attaching plastic panel. Then the whole trunk will be re cleared. The base coat is PPG...

Well the bumper is almost done. All the places the DA will reach have been sanded. I have also hand sanded around the aarowhead spot and inside one of the grills. I probably have 2 more hours of hand sanding then the bumper will be ready. I did not wipe the bumper off for these pictures that...

Some DIY bodywork/ paintwork with the help of a friend...

It is a roadrunner at my friends house. I am unsure the year. Without looking at the receipts I know that we bought a quart of base which was ppg and $120. I do not remember the brand of clear but we bought 2 quarts and all the other stuff that goes with it. The hood was stripped with 180...

IDK if this is the proper area to post this in...it is a work in progress and here is where we are so far. I had originally planned to get the front end resprayed in a few years but when I traded the carbon hood for the 05 hood the repaint became a priority. The 05 hood was a fresh respray...

    I'm buying a makita 9227...help with pad/ wool selection...

Well I have decided it is time to upgrade from the pc to a makita 9227. Me and a friend are doing some paintwork on my car next week and we need something that will quickly and effectively get sanding scratches out of fresh clear. My friend has buffer experience from when he worked at a...

I tried 3 new things...Dr Colorchip, jeweling my paint and Opticoat 2.0...

First wash was amazing. Brake dust just didn't stick to the wheels or anything. Even the calipers were beading water LOL.

I tried 3 new things...Dr Colorchip, jeweling my paint and Opticoat 2.0...

Opticoat is not hard at all. You will have it down after a few panels. It is super easy to remove if you end up with some high spots. I knew they suggested waiting however I didn't. I did the touch up tuesday and touched up the touch up wednesday. I then buffed thursday and friday...

I tried 3 new things...Dr Colorchip, jeweling my paint and Opticoat 2.0...

It is now all over. Opticoated wheels (inside and out) calipers and exhaust tips. Also decided to half ass clean the springs. I am really impressed with what opticoat did for the wheels. Added the slightest bit of shine but they still look satin. Hard to describe. Softened them up...

I tried 3 new things...Dr Colorchip, jeweling my paint and Opticoat 2.0...

I was able to get the cold weather wheels off and begin tackling the brake calipers. I put some cardboard on the ground under them then I let them soak with some megs apc and then hit them with a toothbrush. This didn't quite cut it so I hit them with some foaming wheel cleaner (some crap...

I tried 3 new things...Dr Colorchip, jeweling my paint and Opticoat 2.0...

I did the Dr Colorchip and let it set for about 36 hrs before touching it. Was it long enough? That I do not know but I did not have anymore time to wait. I did go over them with my pc and then opticoat. The Dr Colorchip worked great for road rash but not for chips. Any larger spot and the...

Yeah the wheels are powdercoated stock 18s. The stock 17s on the car have all season tires on them cause I was driving it some in the cold this winter.

Can a newbie realistically apply Opti-coat?

Well good news is that I very lightly rubbed a few of these spots with PO85RD by hand on the corner of a microfiber and it got rid of them. I only have to rub for about 10 seconds. I still have to pull it outside and inspect everything real closely. I will do that when the kids nap. IDK...

Can a newbie realistically apply Opti-coat?

What are the effects of IPA wipe down on opticoat? I will probably have a few more spots that I need to level down with PO85RD. After I do that do I need to do an IPA wipe down in the small areas before applying more opticoat? What does the IPA do the the existing opticoat?

I did all the painted surfaces two times and the glass once. It took between 2 and 3 hours. I bet I could redo it in about half the time now though because I have a better feel for it. In fact, I will probably remove this micro marring and redo it with a microfiber pad in the near future.
