It's deionized but not distilled.

They are removable, at least on all of the ones I've seen (though it's usually a PITA) - including my '23 Bronco. I couldn't be bothered, myself, but the truly hard core remove them and clean them then put them back. There's even a camp that removes them, cleans them, then spray paints them...

Ohhhhh . . . so that's what folks do with them once they give up the sledding . . . :laughing:
