IMHE hardness of water makes a huge difference, harder the water is less efficient detergent becomes, regardless of which detergent is used and which "fabric" is being washed.
Meguiar's, just like many other manufacturers, recommens their compounds for use with rotary only. Some have reported good results with PC but you are doing it at your own risk.

Exactly. For same reason I would like to suggest that everyone checks/tighten the bolt every time before they start working with it as these backing plates are not self-tightening and everything that "vibrates" has a chance of getting loose over the period of time so few seconds of pre-work...
