My rotary has a 6" backing plate and a smaller 4". My long throw and my Porter Cable DA have the 5" backing plate. I use the rotary only for special occasions whereas the other two are the work horses.

Mine, Brink., lasted a little over 15 yrs.

At that price its a no brainer, just try to repair what I have.
