Try a abrasive chrome polish maybe Meg's or use a dawn/car soap mix and 0000 steel wool and rub out just the spots where the corrosion or pitting is starting to occur the seal in with a metal sealant like blackfires or a paint sealant will do fine for now. Maybe post some pics to help

Apply some to a test spot let it haze then buff it off and see if it's slickness matches some wgdgps maybe u can rule that one out at least or just let it sit a couple days and see of it seperates and has a oily layer then it should be the the sealant

I'm glad to hear you been successful in not burning any door or hood edges but don't be misinformed about a DA they will burn edges and sharp body lines if not careful.

I don't find anything different between the two. Also takes me forever to tape up a vehicle it's not just plastics and window moldings but headlight molding, chrome emblems, door, hood & trunk edges.

First I work with clean pads, that car wash converted buffer has prolly never been replaced or doubt each foam finger cleaned properly so I'm sure it polishing ability is compromised plus there dirty so they prolly scratch the paint. They spray a wax/sealant that prolly covers up the swirls...
