Chronicles of An Amateur Detailer: The Dawn Wash - A Detailer's MRI

Excellent article, easy and fun to read and very well illustrated. As a semi newbie with a black car I have subscribed to this thread. Thanks for writing it.

    Meguiars vs Mothers

I still qualify as a newbie but I did pick up a few thoughts by hanging out here and attending an on site Meg's demo. Meg's has a huge product selection both OTC and even more the pro detailers line. I'm not as familiar with mothers but I'm sure they have a good product line. One thing I learned...

    MF towels currently on Bogo

Currently on Bogo are 2 grey colored MF towels 16x24". One is the chinchilla the other a plush towel. For general QD and final Buffing and or wipe down after a blow dry is one better than the other? Are the 16x24 a little big for general MF use? Thought I'd get some while they are on Bogo and...

    Black and micro-scratches after correction

I use the 2 bucket method with grit guards and 2 different MF wash mitts. I also use my power washer to pre apply soap in an effort to lift any dirt off. The car is driven only in best of weather and never really gets that dirty just dust and bugs on front fascia. I have A pair of cobra plush...

    Mustang Cobra Meets AG Arsenal

Very nice car. I'll follow this thread to see how the products work for you. I'm going to the same show with my 96 SVT Cobra Black. I love the red and it will be much easier to maintain than my black. Where are you located? I'm in Reading PA. C U There on the 12th. Dave

    Black and micro-scratches after correction

I corrected and polished my 96 SVT Cobra using the Meg's DA MF System. I then used Optima UPG+ as an LSP. For my first time it looked pretty good. I've since washed it 2x, dryed with leaf blower and detailed with Optima UD+. I was prepping it for a show this weekend and while detailing it with...

How to find a buzz / rattle in car?

:nomore: Ha ha, the Cobra engines are built in a total separate facility. They are built from hardened components, balanced and blueprinted, and hand assembled by a two man team who then signs and serialized them. It may be many things, but it's not the engine.

How to find a buzz / rattle in car?

Ur 96 SVT Cobra is in excellent condition except for 2 annoying rattles. 1st there was an in the dash buzz at 45mpg-up. Now there just started a rattle from say 20mph-up. Both appear to be in/under the dash though the buzz could be firewall. Car has 43K miles always garaged, never wrecked or...

How long does it take you?

I started on my Black Cobra Mustang, my first real correction. With my bad back and this real hot weather we have been having I couldn't do the whole car. So I washed with dawn, clayed it, then using the Meg's DA MF system I did the hood, roof, trunk, spoiler, the pillars, and the tops of the...

    Opinions/experience Collonite over Optima UPG+

I recently stripped my car, clayed it, buffed it, then applied Optima Ultimate Paint Guard Plus UPG+. I planned to top this with Collonite. In your opinion/experience is this a good move? Or should I leave it with just UPG+ ? The car is black. Thanks, Spiney/Dave

Impressed with Optimum Car (spray) Wax

I'm using OCW over UPG+ for the first time. What should I be looking for as far as Ghosting and Sweating? Thanks, Dave

Impressed with Optimum Car (spray) Wax

I like the cold only about one month out of the year. Does it get incredibly hot and humid for 6 months out of the year? We had a mild winter here in Central Pa and are having a hot, humid, and now unfortunately dry summer. Had many mid 90- to over 100 degree days so far. Personally I am no fan...

1st time using Optima UPG+ shows hand/ finger prints very easily

I just corrected the hood, roof, pillars, trunk, spoiler, and tops of quarter panels of my Black Cobra. I then did an IPA wipe down and used UPG+ for the 1st time. I used Cee Dog's tips. I used it sparingly as per the instructions and gave it a 2nd coat about 15 hours later. After letting that...

Impressed with Optimum Car (spray) Wax

Because of it being spoken of so highly here I bought it with my last order. I wasn't sure if I was going to use it or Meg's UQW. I had both sitting there so I did 1/2 a panel with Meg's and the other 1/2 with OCW. I love the smell of Meg's but I liked the idea of the UV Inhibitor so I went with...

When you must take car for service are you like this?

Wonder if anyone else does this. I had to take my 96 SVT Cobra to my mechanic today, the AC clutch died. I bought my car last year from the previous owner who babied it. I take extra care of it. It has no door dents and I just buffed it out. Very few swirls or scratches for a 16 year old black...

    Newbies Observation

I did my first correction. I'm with you on all points. Except I never turned on the DA before spreading the product on the surface and making sure pad was on surface 1st. One mistake I made several times till I caught it was forgetting to change to the correct speed when switching from...

    Lighting

I have both a work light that contains a fluorescent tube that folds over about 5-6 times. That's great because it's cool but it doesn't seem to show off the defects as well as the halogens. I also have a two headed unit on a stand that I think is 500w each. Shows the defects but throws a lot of...

    1st correction progress and questions

I re-watched the Video with Mike and the guys from Meguiar's on this system and caught something that may improve my results. They mentioned that using the supplied backing plate is very important. I bought a spare 5" backing plate by a different manufacturer and I put that on my Gratiots Garage...
