Try a rotary with a wool pad. If you dont have one, you can try the purple foamed wool pads or the new megs MF system. Ardex also makes a compound with a bit more cut than 105.
You are doing something wrong then. Maybe try adding a spray of distilled water after a few passes or a spray of QD. Speed shouldn't be an issue, but see if you get the same results at a lower speed. How large of an area were you working?
Which backing plate are you using? If you use the one...
