    New Rupes Forced Rotation Polisher

Looks like an awesome addition from Rupes! I imagine it will "walk" less than the 3401 because of its smaller orbit and higher OPMs. Although, my 3401 with 5.5" B&S flat pads is very easy to control. That being said, is anybody else a tad bit confused on the Rupes banner of the new Mille...

flex 3401 temperature of the head unit while polishing

I wish mine would run that cool! The last compound session I used the 3401 on speed 5-5.5 and I could hardly touch the metal shroud! Its a great tool but man does it get hot! It was 80 degrees out too, and it ran pretty much continuously. I usually check oil on my felt ring about every other...

How to compound and polish curves and humps?

The PC type machine with a 3" option would be my choice as well. It should have plenty of power to keep a 3" spinning through those curves. My GG6 has a 3" plate on it, which I use primarily with B&S 4" pads. I use this setup in places my 3401 can't get to. For pads, I'm looking forward to...

    Flex 3401 or FLEX XFE7-15

I've found from personal preference that the LC hybrids work very well on both the XFE and 3401. They do have a bit more vibration on the XFE, than say, the Buff and shine Lo-pros, but keep spinning very well even on speed 4. I did an Audi Q7 yesterday and finished with white LC Hybrids/ Force...

    Flex 3401 or FLEX XFE7-15

I have the Flex trifecta (PE14, 3401 and XFE). Personally, all three tools have their niche. That being said, I reach for the 3401 for AIO applications, where I am in a time crunch and know I can attain consistent, great results (IE production detailing). The 3401 is nothing short of a...

    Possible damage to my 3401

First off, I'm impressed that you rocked a 22' boat with a 3401! I tackled a 19' this weekend but had the PE14 and a wool pad do the heavy lifting below the rub strip- 3401 got used above (typically on speed 5-6). I'd agree to lube up the felt strip with some air tool oil, motor oil, etc...

    Best Cut to Finish Product?

I saw very little difference in finishing between the LC Orange hybrid and the White hybrid pads. Obviously, the orange will give you a bit more cut. Finish is excellent on both. Test vehicle with this application was a black VW sportwagen (moderately hard paint). Tool used was the 3401.

    Best Cut to Finish Product?

Add Blackfire SRC Compound to the list. It cuts more like an aggressive swirl remover, but finishes fantastic.

    LC Hybrids on XFE

I do tend to use light to moderate pressure with the XFE, which is significantly less than my use of the 3401. Hybrids are great! Just placed an order for some 5.5" force pads! I will keep this thread updated with my findings! On speed 4.5-5, I'd say the hybrids are warm to the touch. It...

    LC Hybrids on XFE

I had the opportunity to do a little more "testing" with the 6.5" LC white hybrid pads this weekend on a black sl600. It's seriously almost like this pad was made for this polisher- I can't get over it! I experimented with 5.5" buff and shine flat pads (green and black), and a maroon b&s...

    Franken-flex modded 3401

So I poured some parts finally- and this is proving to be quite a challenge. In an effort to make a "soft grip" feel on the cap, I decided to head to Alumilite (a mold and resin company about 20 miles from me) and pitch them my idea. I have had great success with their products in the past and...

    Buff N Shine Pads w Flex3401

Yes, but you will need a smaller backing plate. The one that comes on the 3401 will hang over the edge of those pads- not what you want! Otherwise, 5.5" B&S pads on the 3401 work great!

    Flex Upgrade: 3401 Vs XFE7-15

Mike Phillips wrote some great comments regarding forced rotation machines and free floating DAs as they are different machines (in how they operate). Personally, I have both, and really prefer the feel of the XFE over the 3401. It's slightly lighter, MUCH quieter, and very easy to control. I...

    rotary

X2! You won't regret either. I sold my 849x to buy a 9237c. Great decision IMO. Then I caught the FLEX bug and had to get a PE14. Another great choice! Both the Makita and the PE14 are fantastic. Flex is just easier to operate and a little more quiet. A full size will really excel on boats...

    LC Hybrids on XFE

I did some more polishing yesterday on a very soft Honda CRV that was in rough shape. I brought my XFE and GG6 to do the work and D151 was the AIO of choice. I started polishing with the maroon B&S Lo-pro pad (6.5"), and had it between speed 5.5-6 almost the entire time. These pads (in my...

Flex XFE Owners, What's The Verdict?

Opened up my freshly purchased XFE7 today to try out! I have nothing else "long throw" to compare to, as I own a PE14, 3401, and GG6 with 5" plate. Let me say, "wow." It is a sweet machine! Like sweet. Very smooth. Almost as smooth as my PE, and no I'm not kidding! And quiet. I think it wins...

Favorite correction compound and polish duo?

Right now I really like M100 and M205. Both are easily available and very affordable. M100 dusts very little in my use and cuts pretty fast- especially on wool! Also am very impressed with the Blackfire SRC duo- both finish out so nice! Haven't had expirience with HD CUT yet, but if its...

    Trifecta owners- What's your useage?

Hello fellow flexers! For those of you who own the flex trifecta (PE14, 3401 and now the XFE), What are your varied uses for each machine? What gets the most run time? I just placed an order for the XFE and seriously cannot wait to start polishing with it. I was thinking about designating it...
