    Wax - Seal - Wax//Wax - Wax - Seal

I put a coat of Optimum Car Wax (OCW) on about three weeks ago. I just scored a bottle of Collinite 8465 Insulator Wax (retail!) that I'd like to put on tomorrow because it's gonna be 60+ degrees. I've just ordered Opti-Seal from AG that I will be getting at the end of the week. I know it's...

Any reason you chose the 845 over the 476 and the 915?

    Basic outdoors winter car care?

Hmmm, I've only got a coat of Optimum Car Wax on my bimmer for the winter. Even though this product contains carnauba and polymer sealants, I'm now wondering if that's enough or whether I need something stronger (especially since I'll be putting on and removing that car cover all winter!)? OCW...

    Basic outdoors winter car care?

Well, I bought the car cover today from Bavarian and asked them about having to wash to clean the car before using the cover. At first he said it would be a good idea, and when I asked him if using a car duster would do, he said yes if the car wasn't very dirty. If it is, he recommended a wash...

Sanding aluminum trim: Wet or Dry?

EDIT: I checked the trim the next day in better light and I'd say the oxidation has improved by 80% at least. Quite a nice result for <$10.

Sanding aluminum trim: Wet or Dry?

Come to think of it there's no way my trim could be anodized because Bavarian Auto sells a de-oxidizer product to BMW owners that includes sandpaper. I did dry sanding today and it came out OK, as I told Mike. It brought the oxidized appearance down probably 60%, from moderate to mild--but...

Sanding aluminum trim: Wet or Dry?

hi Mike, I haven't been able to find out for sure whether the trim is anodized or not, but it's too late anyway--the deed is done. I'd say the 800 grit sanding plus Mothers Mag&Aluminum Polish removed 50% of the oxidation. My process was: 1) clay bar; 2) sanding; 3) clay bar; 4) apply polish...

    Basic outdoors winter car care?

Is is really necessary to only put the cover on a clean car and to wash it prior to putting on the cover? The Ultimate cover I'd be ordering from Bavarian Auto claims that this is not the case.

Sanding aluminum trim: Wet or Dry?

Sanding aluminum trim: Wet or Dry? I'm pretty sure it's dry, but just checking. I want to remove moderate oxidation and then polish with Mothers Mag & Aluminum.

Forever Black: How to remove dried residue off paint?

The FB did a decent job on the molding (after two coats) but I've noticed some black drips down below the molding (it's a black car, but I'd still like to remove them).

Another option is to follow the Poli-Seal with OCW, since that contains both carnauba wax and polymer sealants--so it's a wax and a sealant together. Then compare it to a PS w/OS combo and see what you think.

Who needs Optimum Final Finish when you use Polish II?

Thanks Ryan, great response. I'll try out the Final Finish because the product description says it works well with softer paints (and black paint)--which is what I believe describes the paint my black 1990 BMW has. Being a noob at this, I'm not sure what level the swirls are on my car. I...

Who needs Optimum Final Finish when you use Polish II?

Somebody please tell me why Final Finish is needed when you can buff the Polish II to look great (or Poli-Seal for that matter). What am I missing?

Best products for single stage paints?

Some products (like Menzerna) seem as if they've been engineered more for current, harder, ceramic clear coat. Other products (like Klasse AIO, released in 1979) seem like they were designed much more with older/softer clear coats or single stage paint. A product like Optimum Finish Polish...

    Experience with Wax Blaster?

Forever Black worked fine for me, but it needed two coats. After the first coat nothing looked different, but it must have sunk in and provided a base for the second coat. Let's see how long it lasts.

How do you know how hard/soft your paint/clear coat is?

Comprehensive response, as always! Thanks Mike. Another general question on paint condition: Referring again to my own older car (1990 BMW), I've had folks tell me to be careful because on a car that old the single stage paint is probably "fragile and hard". But I don't think they're using...

How do you know how hard/soft your paint/clear coat is?

I keep reading how some polishes are designed for harder, ceramic clear coats while others are more suited to older, softer coats. Is it true that older cars have softer clear coats and newer cars harder ones as a rule? How do you know what type of clear coat your car has? Can I safely assume my...
