    Mike, is detailing rocket science?

Same here, but only because I am not dissatisfied with Meguiar's Professional products since I started using them in 1996. #205 that I use may be a fine polish, but to take it that step further, I am sure there are finer polishes which I have not looked into...yet.

    Mike, is detailing rocket science?

In can't edit my original post so. The question I should have asked in my initial post and the answer I am after... How many non-professionals, and by that I mean detailers not making a living at it, have made mistakes and have damaged their paint? If you have...details?

    Mike, is detailing rocket science?

No, he is just an insecure "key turner" who shoots anybody down that actually knows something. I notice he does not partake in any technical topics as far as providing any info, but he sure is good at belittling some people. Imagine, almost 30,000 posts of nothing but elevator talk. Average joe...

    Mike, is detailing rocket science?

I've always said that you need to know enough about something to sift through the good and bad information. Or as a co-worker once put it, "the internet is the greatest source of unconfirmed information". I had to chuckle at that one. But without it, were would we be? I've found some...

Clayed my car and scratched the hell out of it

I used a clay bar for the first time two years ago and was a bit worried trying this process on my 911's paint. The paint by the way was near perfect with only very light scratches/swirls to start with, but it did have contaminants embedded in the surface. I followed the instructions on Mike's...

    Mike, is detailing rocket science?

It appears so, because some on a car forum (why is it forums usually have one or two of those) tried to make it look as if detailing is rocket science or brain surgery and only a professional detailer can obtain results. I've looked after my vehicles in the distant past using consumer grade...

would you be reluctant to buy a 2001 car with less than 1,000 miles?

If that is the case, I would not be at all worried. Perform a thorough inspection yourself. Miles, like a runway behind you, are just that...behind you and not ahead of you and are of little use. You may have found a keeper! Damn thieving Japs! They stole that color from Porsche! :xyxthumbs:

    LF: Tire Cleaning Product

Does it coat the tire to make it look clean or does it leave the tire looking a natural black? I can get this locally, so I'll give it a try. I'm trying to look up Roll Off and haven't found a web site for them (Bell Chemical Corp) yet. I did find a MSDS sheet on the product and I am almost...

    LF: Tire Cleaning Product

I just looked it up. It appears to be a water based degreaser similar to the product I have been using for years. The 3rd pic looks familiar in that the soap I use does this, but I still have to go at the tire with a brush a few/several times to get the tire 100% clean. This is particularly...

    LF: Tire Cleaning Product

I am not looking for "coatings" and "gels" or any products that masks dirt. The general purpose soap that I use works well, but it does take a fair amount of scrubbing / agitation to get the "brown" off and to get the tire looking natural rubber clean. Any suggestions? The product does not...

How To: Detail Your Engine Like a Professional

The connectors on cars have been sealed for ages; even my el-cheapo 1983 Toyota had sealed connectors. That was 30 years ago. Pull a connector apart and you'll see a rubber seal/o-ring within the housing. As for the wiring entering the back of the connector, those are sealed as well...if it is...

Lets hear from our Motorcycle owners!

Hook up the garden hose to the laundry tub faucet and mix some warm water in with the cold. I've washed my motorcycle in well below freezing temperatures, cold enough that the water on the ground would freeze within minutes...had to hose the driveway with warm water to prevent skating on it.

LF: Natural Soft Bristle Car Wash Brush

LF: Natural Soft Bristle Car Wash Brush

Like anything old, the natural soft bristle car wash brush I bought back in the 70s is slowly losing its hair over time and I am looking for a top quality replacement. This is the short 10 inch handled type with an overall length of about 18 inches. Any suppliers of these out there?

Driving behind someone, what frustrates you?

Driving cultures vary from place to place, so it depends where. On the North American continent, drivers can't quite seem to figure out what the left lane is for. That never seems to be a problem in Germany.

How To: Detail Your Engine Like a Professional

I wet down my driveway first and then use a commercial grade water-based degreaser such as Swish Facto AT30. I'll let my garden hose run under the engine area if I am going to be at it for a while.

Lets hear from our Motorcycle owners!

I have one chain driven motorcycle as well and have had many more in the past. I hate having to clean and lube them all the time. As for my shaft driven motorcycles, one final drive gear lube change is all I have to do to them every year. Ten minutes and I am done for the year.

Lets hear from our Motorcycle owners!

To add to my 1st post on this thread... I just got my first BMW, a 1990 BMW R100 GS that I bought new back in 1991, back on the road for the first time since 2002. Other motorcycles took its place since then, plus riding the Alps made riding locally kind of boring, so I haven't put a single...
