How many products are "ON" your car right now?

I just did my new one so here is what I used: Optimum Power clean/dawn strip IronX gel soap Menzerma 4500 Optimum car wash soap Distilled water/IPA Opticoat everything but glass. Everything with paint or plastic on exterior including jams, under hood, trunk lid gets coated. Tires get Wolfgang...

PBL and Aquawax 951, strange situation

Are we sure he didn't get some overspray from somewhere he drove/parked?

    Wheel Coating question

Not necessarily. So long as the wheel is free of any old coatings or sealant or wax or whatever, you would not have to polish to get the Opticoat to stick. The polishing step is more to remove any defects before coating since they will be pretty much locked in once the opticoat cures. I'm...

Duragloss Aquawax is the real deal!

I have been using Aquawax as a drying aid on all opticoated cars and it defiantly amps up the shine and slickness. I just mist it on the wet car and dry with a single waffle weave and the blower. Don't let the price fool you. You don't have to spend big bucks to get quality from Dura Gloss.

Do I really need to foam wash?

I have to agree, no. I've got one but to be honest, I can't bring myself to drag the pressure washer out and set the thing up for the marginal difference it makes. I think washing technique and good towels make more difference than a foam gun. If I had a shop and made my living at this, maybe.

    My garage project

Ok, confession time. I stained my garage gray right after I moved in 24 years ago. It lasted pretty well with only minor lifting at the footprints. In the summer, the tires are too hot to touch so I wasn't surprised. A year ago I decided a DIY epoxy from Lowes was the right way to go for a...

How soon to wax 2015 X3

Wax/sealant/coating refers to the properties of surface protection. Wax is generally natural (carnauba), sealant is synthetic. They are widely varied as to benefits and properties. They last anywhere from a couple of weeks to 6 months with wax being at the lower end of that spectrum...

    Opti Coat 2.0 on Plastic

I've had good luck on plastic (all black, all pebble texture). I'm not sure it enhanced it but it has kept it looking new. They were all new vehicles but one has sat in the Arizona sun for 2 years with no appreciable change in hue. My experience has been that it would have started to fade by...

    My first Opti-coat experience....

No, post count won't help. I was referring to post count having to do with general experience and the theory that most people wouldn't try an opticoat application in a first attempt at detailing. I was afraid that my response was insulting because I didn't realize he was experienced, just...

2 New Cars - First Purchase

Take a look at the Lake Country Wash Wedge. I've been using one for about 2 months and I really like it. Rinses clean easily, hold a ton of soapy water and is easy to hang on to. I like foam because it releases dirt better in my humble opinion. Microfiber is machine washable but it didn't...

    My first Opti-coat experience....

I should have know nobody with 5 posts would try and opticoat application. Rookie mistake. Welcome anyway:dblthumb2:

New black car owner and received the dreaded unrequested DISO

Of course the swirls are on every car that dealership has. Hardly anyone cares and they wash them all the same way. Dirty "rags" tossed on the ground and reused. I was window shopping a local Mercedes store and the salesman told me the swirls added to the paint's luster and shouldn't be...

    My first Opti-coat experience....

Carnauba is expensive and since it won't last for more than a few weeks, probably not worth it. I use Duragloss Aquawax. Just spritz it on while the car is still wet and dry as usual. Very slick and nice shine. I buy it by the gallon since I care for 5 opticoated cars. Come to think of it...

    My first Opti-coat experience....

I did my 6th car about 3 weeks ago, a 2014 335i in estoril blue. This was my first try with Lake Country coating applicators and they rock. Much better control and easier to get an even application. My first try was a similar experience. So much so that I called Optimum. A few hours later...

    UPGP applicator gone bad...

I used mine for the first application and threw it away. Since even the 4 oz. bottle never seems to run out, I have switched to the yellow round foam pads Autogeek sells and it works just fine. Anything that allows a thin, controlled application should do. For what the little yellow pads...

Best protection for the AZ sun on older cars?

My experience with wax in Arizona is looks good for about 1 week and then disappears. That's on a garaged white car. I haven't found anything that stands up to heat so I'd go with sealants or coatings. In fact, that's why I frequently trumpet the virtues of Opti-Coat 2.0. I've done 6 cars...
