Show 'N Shine: The biggest coating job to date!!! CQuartz Finest.

Nice job on the exhaust and wheels. That thing is as big as a house. Great job! You definitely earned your $ but I bet you were skipping to the bank afterwards.

Status Auto Detailing: 2003 Corvette Stage III Detail/ Opti-Coat Pro

Thanks Tato! On most modern engines I just cover obvious stuff like the alternator, exposed electrical connectors and on this car there's a little battery box area in the corner of the engine compartment. I completely covered that with a thick towel and cleaned carefully by hand afterwards...

Status Auto Detailing: 2003 Corvette Stage III Detail/ Opti-Coat Pro

Here's a beautiful Corvette that I corrected. Following the correction I applied Opti-Coat pro to preserve my work and the paint, long term. This Vette was a major job, taking 15+ hours to bring the exterior back to life. I absolutely love taking slightly older cars like this to a whole new...

    Cleaning wheels with a steamer

Meh...not the best tool for wheel cleaning. . .and in my opinion not the best tool for engine cleaning either. I feel like steamers have always been over hyped for these purposes. That said, a steamer does have a place in engine and wheel cleaning for isolated issues like heavy grease or gunk...

Bought a used service vehicle that had decals: decals gone but paint gloss still shows decal outline

It's called ghosting and is sometimes impossible to fix. Paint correction will help and most likely will 100% correct the problem. The issue is that sometimes the base coat will fade underneath the clear. The is nothing you can do about it without repainting if this is the case.

Need some help on getting an air compressor set up

Very rarely do I get annoyed on this forum, but this is one of those times. Just some flat out crappy advice being given to the OP. This guy just signed the lease on a shop and is a full time detailer. Like I said, if he was a weekend warrior, I'd say go for the HF. I give up. I'm out.

Need some help on getting an air compressor set up

I agree big time. Mine's belt driven and oil filled. I can easily carry on a conversation in the room while it's running, while the HF compressor is so loud you literally need hearing protection to be in the room with it.

That's a cool tip. My brother has the hf compressor now. I'll tell him about it.

Using Meguiars Wheel Brightener to decontaminate Rail Dust?

Sorry, didn't mean to go off the charts or offend anybody. That product is just a nightmare.

    2012 Challener Correction & CQUK

excellent work and nice photography. If you could have got the exact shots where the swirls previously were, that would have been great. I know it's difficult or impossible sometimes with lighting situations and time crunches. I've been there. Really like the old school look of that beast.

    2005 BMW 535i

That dust is embedded and even if removed would leave pits. You'll have better luck mechanically removing the dust (compounding), rather than chemically trying to remove it. You did an excellent job trying to save this beast. Headlights were BAD! Holy cow!

I use rubber mud boots with insoles to make them more comfortable. I switch back to tennis shoes after the washing step.

Using Meguiars Wheel Brightener to decontaminate Rail Dust?

WB can damage paint and can certainly damage wheels. I used it starting out and have since turned from my wicked ways. Use WB long enough and you'll damage something, yourself included. With all that risk, it still won't work as well as Iron X. It just doesn't make any sense at all. WB is THE...

Meguiar's DA Microfiber Xtra Cut Discs

I bought some but haven't got a chance to try them yet. I think these are going to have a pretty limited application, due to the fact that they won't contour well. That said, I think they might be good at removing heavier defects on hard paint. It may be a better alternative than stepping up...

I'm seriously not trying to be a snob or even knock harbor freight. Just trying to save the OP trouble in the long run.

Need some help on getting an air compressor set up

I have that exact 21 gallon HF air compressor. I used it starting out a few years ago. It was a pita to say the least, but it got me going. . .I guess. It's a good starter compressor at best. If the op was just getting started I would so go for it. This thing is going to take some serious use...

Need some help on getting an air compressor set up

If $400 is your budget, just wait a few weeks or longer and save up more. You may find a used one in that range that will fit your needs, if you're lucky. If I remember correctly, you just moved into a shop. DO NOT buy a harbor freight compressor for professional use. It won't last and they are...

    3" polisher or da sander

1500 by that 3m machine will give you better results than by hand. The sanding marks or "controlled defects" will be easier to remove on the the subsequent 3000 damp sand step. Hand sanding is not very uniform, and imo, is more likely to cause a strike through. I'm more familiar with the...
