    Polishing pad cleaning

The hook and loop will give way sooner rather than later, but I can typically get 3-4 uses out of the pads with this stuff. Definitely want to dedicate pads to this product though, no sense messing up more pads then needed.

    Building a new garage!

Exciting!! I'm building a new garage soon as well...this link is some feedback provided form other forum members, some great ideas here. My personal favorite is the garage door openers, have never seen them before. This sounds like it's your dads garage for your use, but looks like there is...

    Polishing pad cleaning

That stuff is a bear to get out of pads. I've had some success with dawn dish soap, but it still takes time a patience to get it out. I normally soak the pads in a bucket of DP Rejuvenator, then hit them with any of the pad cleaning chemicals out there (currently use Pinnacle XMT, BF Pad...

    New member needs some advice

I'd recommend 2.5 mils, anything less is getting pretty thin. Some info I was able to find on single stage paint says 2 mils or less and you run the risk of exposing the primer.

What next- my first full detail attempt

Sorry, forgot to answer your other question. AIO is All In One, such as Blackfire Total Polish and Seal.

    Build a Detail Kit!

All are good suggestions. Only thing I will add, Pinnacle Souveran was designed specifically for red, black, and yellow cars. I love the look it produces on red, but you will get great results with the other products mentioned as well.

    New member needs some advice

I've never worked on an Evo, but from what I can find on the WWW it does appear that it is most likely a single stage. You can do a test spot by hand (Mike has a video that will show you how if you're not sure, basically rub a small spot with some polish and an applicator and look for color...

What next- my first full detail attempt

I have no doubt that you did not add new swirls/scratches, my thought is that by only using one pad you did not effectively remove them. The pads get saturated with product as well as getting loaded up with removed CC, as they do, they lose effectiveness. It won't look dirty, but it will not...

    Clear Coat Failure... timeline?

This was with the blister looking white circles on a black vehicle that stayed outside.

Buffing By Hand... I Can't figure it out!

Agree with the others, however, if you want to continue by hand you can get minor scratches out. I work by hand in tight areas such as under door handles with success. I've never used the products you mention, but one thing that stood out from your post is the use of carnauba. Carnauba is a...

    Clear Coat Failure... timeline?

My personal experience with the CC failure was in Wisconsin, but I've witnessed similar results in the southwest, east coast, northwest, even overseas. IMO, once it breaks the bond and starts to lift, the sun baking on it, contaminates getting under it, you name it continue to work on it and it...

    Order of use

As Tato was pointing out, and you already seem to be aware of, your orange pad is the most aggressive (cutting), followed by the white (Polishing), and then your gray and blue (finishing). You are correct with the order of aggressiveness with your products as well. You can come up with many...

    Brainstorming help: Business name

One thing to consider is if you plan to use a website or not. If you do, your name should have an easy way for customers to find you with an internet search. If you wanted to find a car detailer in your area, what would you type into the search engine? Most people use the town and auto/car...

Which color is most difficult to detect

I'm sure they are there, but silver is hard to detect. As stated before, it's not a bad thing. If you can't find any swirls, that's the point of what we do. You can try different lights and different angles, but if nothing can be seen in direct sun, then I'd say you are gtg.

    Bent Backing Plate

this is a new one I've never dealt with before. Any answer I give you would be nothing more than a guess. Any additional, unintended movement has potential to produce wear as well as leave behind unintended marks. I think I would insane with the additional bump, bump, bump....for that reason...

What next- my first full detail attempt

A couple questions: where do you notice most of the swirls that remain (random spots or more towards the end of your process)? The reason I ask this, many newbies (me included) try to take a pad too far without cleaning it or switching to a new pad. Once the pad gets saturated with product it...

    Clear Coat Failure... timeline?

As you have stated, there are many factors that will affect the timeline, but as a general answer, my experience is not long. A couple months from discovery to peeling/flaking. Once the peeling starts, it's almost line your skin after a sunburn, it just seems to spread. Even areas you didn't...
