I'd give it a shot. Sand with the least abrasive sandpaper necessary. Worst case scenario is you have to repaint, which you're probably going to have to do anyhow.

2014 Impala finished. Standard wash & clay, then 2-step polish with Menzerna FG400 & SF4500, & sealed with Menzerna Power Lock. The car lives outdoors & is parked under a tree. It had bird poo etchings everywhere. Fortunately they weren't too deep, because the FG400 got rid of most of them...

I've done lots of cars with FG400, SF4000, then PL. SF4000 has very little cut, but is an awesome finishing polish. As was stated above, make sure you do Eraser or IPA wipedown before sealant.
