    My employee screwed up today

I detailed at a local auto auction a couple of years ago and I wore a mf towel over my belt buckle to prevent scratches. I was aware that metal buckle can poke through the towel so I kept that in mind. I looked a bit hokey with the yellow towel over my mid-section but it was better than getting...

How to do high quality production detailing - Your largest market!

I noticed you use multiple steps between washing, claying and using Iron-X. Have you tried using CarPro's Snow Soap with a Nanoskin AutoScrub Wash Mitt at the same time? Would that cut time and end up with the same/similar results vs. washing, claying and Iron-X(ing)?

    MF pad system for Cyclo

Are there any microfiber kits for the Cyclo? I don't want to spend another $200-$400 for a machine just to use MF pads -- it's not in my budget. Would it make sense to cut the Meguiar's 5" MF pad down to 4"? I realize it'd be a hack but Meguiar's doesn't make a 4" MF pad. Thanks.

    ONR surprise

Maybe it's the UV inhibitors in the ONR? Maybe you found a new use for ONR?

    NASA New Horizons

I once upon a time fancied a career in astronomy, but you're nobody unless you have multiple degrees -- at least one if not more PhD's -- or discovered something. Astronomy is one of the few sciences amateurs can actually make real scientific contributions. Thank God detailing doesn't require...

    Metro Vac N'Blo feedback....

I have one, too. The best part is "Deliberately Made Better in the USA", strong suction; the sick part is I ponied up the buckaroos to get the Metro carry bag. Who else but a detailer would do such a thing?

Going Crazy, What's the Right Way to Clean Glass???

I've had good results with Stoner's Invisible Glass (aerosol version) and Optimum's ONR. I haven't used any of the RainX products. The technique that works best for me is to spray on the cleaner, wipe with a tight-weave microfiber towel in one direction (up-down) then flip the towel over (or...

    Wash new microfiber towels?

Do you wash new microfiber towels before using? I bought some towels online (not AG -- sorry) and they had "something" on them that caused streaking (not the naked human kind). They also left behind thousands of pieces of lint. An online review recommended washing the towels at least twice...

    Contaminated microfiber towels

I have some microfiber towels that are stained from who know what. If I were working on a customer's vehicle, I wouldn't use that towel at all because if the customer saw it, I'm sure they would develop a negative mindset. If it's stained, retire it to utility purposes or throw it away. Towels...

    Price for detail

I found this on another website but the gist of the message is the same: "Ever since I raised all my other prices a few years ago, I have been a lot more busy and with much higher quality vehicles. I still do not understand why some of (detailers) have such LOW prices, then they complain that...

    Grand Opening Today!

What prompted you to convert from mobile to a shop? Seems like the overhead would cut into the profits considerably. Thanks.

    Business Scam Artists

    Feeling my age

Yep. Started at 2 pm rinsing, washing the tires and rims, foamed the car, scrubbed by hand, rinsed and dried. Compounded and polished with my DeWalt DWP845X. Applied wax with my Cyclo, wiped by hand, finishing around 6 pm. I spent another 30 - 45 min washing windows, dressing tires (I love...

    Feeling my age

I'm 55 and have been detailing part time for the past 4 years or so. Today I washed, dried, compounded, polished and waxed my 2001 Grand Prix. Took me 4 hours and turned out really nice, but I'm feeling my age. How old is too old to detail cars? I'd like to make a few bucks detailing, but what...

Needing to get a larger shop?

Have you considered a mobile operation instead of a second shop? The biggest upside is lower cost vs a 2nd location. The downside is it might cannibalize some of your current shop sales.
