To Steam or To Extract??? Which First?

For mobile use, it seems to me that a VX 5000 is more portable than the Tornador since it requires a sizable compressor, like a 30 gallon, 6 scfm unit. The only portable compressor that is small enough for mobile use and have enough oomph to operate a Tornador may be this DeWalt unit. Thoughts?

Mobile Detailing Water Reclaimation system questions.

It's important to contact your local EPA agency to find out what the water restrictions, if any, apply to car washing. In NE Indiana, I was told by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) that they don't require water reclamation unless I'm operating a commercial car wash...

Mytee Extractors - HP60 vs. Lite II 8070

For mobile purposes, I'd recommend the 8070; for a detail shop, go with the HP60. If pack space in your vehicle or portability is a factor, you might consider the Aztec extractor.

    Interior glass cleaning

:xyxthumbs::xyxthumbs::xyxthumbs: I especially like the aerosol version as it does not runoff as quickly as the sprayed version.

Do I need a torque wrench?

This was demonstrated on a DIY automotive show a couple of years ago -- I think it was on one of Spike TV's "Powerblock" shows. They showed using anti-sieze altered the torque spec substantially. Then they used Automotive Racing Products (ARP) Ultra-Torque anti-sieze compound (ARP | Official...

    Rupes acquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers Maybe strip-mall is the incorrect word. They are in an industrial/commercial section of Longmont. They don't have any retail signage or storefront so you have to look for the front door.

    Rupes acquires Cyclo Toolmakers

Re: Rupes aquires Cyclo Toolmakers The factory in Longmont is not that large. The entire shop takes up 3 strip-mall spaces. When I took a tour of the shop last year, the production line was run by 1 person and had 3-4 people in the office. Efficient, at best. A simliar merger happened 5...

what are your biggest problems about running/starting your business?

I'll buy that for a dollar! If you offer a cut-rate service, you'll cut your own throat because it's *very* hard to get your rates back up where you're making a descent profit. Keep in mind, making a descent profit is OK. Too bad the PC people in our highly esteemed capitol tell us making money...

Cyclo -Old Technology in a Modernized Package

I asked the design engineer about making a 1-head version of the Cyclo and she said the vibration was too high. The combination of the counter-rotating heads plus the counterweights balance out vibration. Even though the Cyclo's motor uses only 220 watts, the counter-rotating gears in the head...

    Rusty scratch in black paint

I have a friend who has a black 2004 Acura TL-S with a nasty scratch on the driver's door that has started to rust. I was wondering what method should be used to remove the rust before filling and applying touch-up paint. I thought after a thorough cleaning to apply Iron-X or a rust inhibitor to...

    Dr. Color Chip

Robert Keppel of Applied Colors demonstrates the technique of filling the scratch or chip with bondo putty then applying the paint on a number of YouTube videos. I can't understand why other paint chip repair kit providers haven't promoted this idea. It makes a lot of sense.

    New McCulloch MC1385 Steamer?

I know there is a way to up the pressure in a VX5000 but has anyone tried to increase the pressure of the MC1385?

    Dr. Color Chip

Paint will shrink considerably after it dries. That's why it does not work to fill deep chips or scratches in the paint. If you look at the chip crater from edge-on, you 'll notice the edge of the chip is higher than the surface of the paint. One solution is to lightly sand each chip to level...

    Steamer, blowing water?

It's the law of physics at work. The hose is filled with steam while you are using it. When you stop, the steam cools and condenses back to hot water. Virtually all steamers that produce a "wet" steam (like the Wagner/McCulloch) will do this. I expect vapor steamers that produce a "dryer" steam...

Best Extractor in the 200-250 price range?

For $130, you can get Rug Doctor's new upholstery extractor. It looks like it might give the LGM a run for the money. I have the LGM ProHeat version and it's OK. It's better than nothing but not quite ready for prime time. For $200-$250, I'd recommend investing in the new McCulloch MC1385...

    "Cloth Baby Diapers" vs MicroFiber

I was told diapers belong on two legged babies; not 4-wheeled babies because most cloth diapers were a polyester type material and would scratch the finish.

MOBILE GUYS - deailing with the sun

Washing in the sun with well or very hard water is a "beach". The water will evaporate before you can apply soap or a drying towel leaving nasty water spots. I experienced this one time washing a Ford F-150 in the summer sun using the client's well water. I spent a lot of extra time cleaning the...

Cleaning buffing pads Chip Foose style

I was watching this video on YouTube from SEMA 2012 featuring Chip Foose as 3M's guest presenter. He demonstrating their new masking tape and TRIZACT sanding disks. When it came time to compound and polish, a person in the audience asked Chip how he cleaned the buffing pads. His answer was...
