New Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner

It seems that since laundry soap works in cold water as well as warm/hot water, that extracting is following the same. It could be as simple economics to not include a heating system. I'd expect a heated system to cost another $100 or even more. Would I pay the difference? Sure.

New Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner

Is this the end of the Little Green Machine from Bissell? Rug Doctor is now selling a portable spot cleaner designed to compete directly with Bissell's spot cleaners for $170. The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner sports a powered scrubbing brush and "2X the suction of its competitors". Really...

    Help needed regarding headlight restoration

According to GlasWeld, who makes a headlight restoration kit that uses a UV lamp for curing the coating, place the lamp about 3" from the lenses. If the lenses are large, you may have to move the lamp around to ensure full coverage. I find it ironic that UV is a primary cause to lens...

Mobile detailing: a trailer; a van; a pickup truck or a little truck

I believe having "it" and not needing it is preferable to needing it and not having it. Spending a few cents more to transport something you don't use this time is cheaper than having to drive somewhere to get what you need. Right now I'm using my daily driver car to detail out of but I'd...

How To Wash a Classic Muscle Car

I've been using a 2-gallon manual pump chemical sprayer like this one to apply ONR which works pretty good for me. I've also used 32 oz sprayers loaded with ONR that works for me, too. I've been debating whether to get either the Mytee Big Boss or CG's "POW_100 – Eco Detailing Pod Waterless...

    Teaching an old dog ...

Earlier I posted a story about my experience detailing 75 cars at the annual Labor Day auto auction in Auburn IN. One thing this old dog learned was don't wear polarized sunglasses when cleaning the windows. The detailer I was working with kept pointing out smudges on the windows I couldn't...

Be careful what you pray for...

MajinAl, Thanks for the kind words. You're right about not getting emotional or taking criticism personally. One thing my customer told me when we first discussed my involvement is he has over $2 million worth of cars on "the line" along with his business partner and their collective...

Be careful what you pray for...

I've been detailing part-time for the past two years and I've been praying/asking for more detail work so I can quit my "real job". A month ago, I posted an ad on craigslist hawking my detailing business. Less than a week later I received a call from a gentleman in FL asking me to detail "a few...

    Detailing TV scams

Wipe on - wipe off "scratch repairs" simply fill the scratch with something far less permanent than paint. 10-20 feet away, scratches that were visible are all but gone. Get close up and you'll more than likely see the scratches. The biggest disappointment to me is the un-educated customer...

    Headlights from *heck*

That's what I told the customer. It appeared to me that the oxidation was on the inside as well, plus the pitting from road rash was very deep. The bottom line is they need to be replaced.

what do you mobile guys do with your generator?

On a "Trucks" episode on the SpikeTV network, they were building a work trailer which featured a high-power generator. They ran an exhaust pipe through the floor and covered the pipe with high-temp header tape. They ran an extension under the floor to the side of the trailer for proper...

    I want a Tornador but><<<???

I've seen a couple air compressors on craigslist that will power a tornador for a decent price. At least 5 scfm @ 90psi with a 25-30 gallon tank is my goal. I think the newer tornador will work on a lessor compressor but I want to use other pneumatic tools, too.

    Headlights from *heck*

I told the customer that may be necessary as the pitting was quite deep in the lens' surface. I didn't / couldn't realize that the pitting was that deep until I removed part of the surface since the lenses were heavily oxidized.

    Headlights from *heck*

While I was washing a 2011 Cadillac SRX the other day, the customer asked if I could do anything about the headlights on his wife's car, a 2005 SAAB. The lenses were so cloudy and pitted, I couldn't see the light bulb in the fixture. I used Meguiar's 3" sanding papers, starting with 500 grit...

Flooded car? Get a good detailer

While that's true, some of these flooded cars were being sold elsewhere in the US by "unscrupulous" car sellers as used, not flooded cars. If you run the VIN through carfax or autocheck, you might get lucky and find out that the car has a flooded/water damage/salvage title IF it was reported in...

Flooded car? Get a good detailer

On The Weather Channel there was a news segment about cars that were flooded during hurricane Sandy being resold as "good used cars". They wanted to test this by taking a flooded 2009 Toyota Camery to Perfect Auto Detaining in VA to see if people could tell the the car was flooded but restored...

Horrible things you've seen walking by cars.

I saw a car in the parking lot at a local grocery store that was so full of *stuff*, there was enough space only for the driver. The rest of the interior went from the floor up to the window, front seat and back seat.
