The Clearcoat Failure Photo Gallery Archive

Clearcoat failure kills me. My Town Car looked BEAUTIFUL 3 years ago. Astunning example of a car made in 1994. Now, it looks like any other $1,000 POS on the road. You could never tell all the hours I spent clay barring, washing, hand drying, waxing, then buffing. I can spend all day making it...

    Favorite/Best chrome polish?

Ditto. It's worked wonders on all the chrome I've ever used it on. Whether it was a 1977 Lincoln Continental that had sat in a barn for 15 years, or on a DD, it never disappointed me.

    Wal-mart....

They stopped selling AutoGlym HD there? I bought some about a year or so ago, still have it. Good stuff, although I like my Liquid Glass the best. ( Apple to Oranges, I know) To make it fair, as far as waxes go (from my experiences) for the price, hard to go wrong with NXT 2.0 Tech wax.

Best product to remove body shop paint

Honestly, from the paint that I've already exposed, I see no evidence of it being sanded. It's just as shiny and glossy as the paint on the rest of the truck. The whole job prep-wise looks like it was done by the lowest bidder.

Best product to remove body shop paint

Hi all, According to the service records I have, the GMC Sierra I own was in an accident about 10 years ago. The hood, fender, and grille were replaced, and repainted. First off, the shop painted them the wrong color. It was close, but it was painted more a purplish-red, vs. maroon. It's...

CarPro Cquartz Dlux - In Stock, Tested & Reviewed

Well, these bumpers aren't clearcoated. Just flat grey that's a bit faded. Clearcoat is...to a degree...a very very very long lasting sealant. :D

CarPro Cquartz Dlux - In Stock, Tested & Reviewed

Hi all, Can anyone advise me on how this works on painted plastic bumpers and such? Mine could certainly use a little help. I'd like to try this before repainting, because $40.00 is a lot cheaper than $600+ for a repaint.

    Carfax or Autocheck?

Both of them depend solely on the information reported to them during the life of the vehicle. For example, my father had a 1993 GMC Sierra, picked it up new, put FARM USE tags on it, and drove it that way until 2005. Then Personal Use tags went on, when he decided to retire it from farm duty...

    Liquid vs. Spray vs. Paste

This is something I have always wondered, but have never seems to find an answer for. When you buy a wax, lets say Meguiars Gold glass for example. They have a liquid, and a paste (they might have a spray, I dunno) Is there any benefit of buying one over the other? I was told years ago by an...

    Best heater for Heated Garage

Kerosene heaters work well, but you MUST buy a Carbon Monoxide detector when you buy one. You can find the heaters for $40-50 on your local Craigslist all the time. Also, make sure someone in your area has 1-K (clear) Kerosene. Gas stations are your best bet.

    3 vehicles you hate detailing

I don't "hate" detailing any of my vehicle, but the hardest has to be my 1977 Lincoln Continental Town Car. It's just such a massive vehicle (the longest sedan made since 1977, and the longest car of the 70's) that one almost needs one of those "click-lock" ladders to lock over the hood and...

Detail - 2006 Black CTS-V Heavy Swirl Correction

I'm surprised that it (M105/205) says it can be used by hand. I wonder how that would have resulted?

    Beginning Clearcoat Failure

Unfortunately, yes, it's begun to fail. The only thing you can do is repaint the panel, or the whole car. I know what you mean about loving the paint off the car...

    Beginning Clearcoat Failure

Sorry for the delay Mike, but here you are: There is one more (which is the shot I wanted to get you) which didn't turn out so well, since it is later in the afternoon, it's really gotta be done around noon for it to reveal itself. I'll try for that easily next week. It hasn't begun...

    Door Jams or Sills

I just wash/detail them. they rarely ever see the sun, and only for about 2-3 seconds at a time, so I don't worry about it. I may put some wax on them if the mood strikes me. The door jams of my 1977 Continental have never been waxed, and [the paint] still looks new.

    Household items you've detailed..

I wash/wax my Craftsman yard tractor/mower (GT5000) on a regular basis. Wash usually once a month, and wax twice a cutting season. Still looks new.

Nothing special, just wanted to post some pics

No one, and I mean no one would ever guess that car had anywhere NEAR 110K on it.

    Beginning Clearcoat Failure

I really, really hate to be able to say this, but I'll take a couple photo's of my car tomorrow (if I have time before I leave for work) So you'll have an example of the very incipient stage of it, a early stage, medium, and full-blown. Unfortunately, I've got it all. :( I can wax it (and...
