Does direct sunlight shorten car wax life?

Interesting. Yeah the waxes I have been experimenting with lately have been TW Carnuba liquid paste, and Collinite. I don't know if Collinite 845 is carnuba or not. It doesn't mention it at all. But no sealant.

Does direct sunlight shorten car wax life?

I started wondering about this. Searching for "direct sunlight car wax" just gave me a bunch of web pages that talk about applying the wax in direct sunlight. I'm talking about if a lot of sunlight can shorten the life of the layer of wax that is already on your paint. Reason why I'm asking...

Hand washing MF towels, and drying them

You folks have talked me into washing my MF drying towels. Now I have two questions: (1) Most of you have spoken about washing them in a machine. Why not just hand wash them? Is it good to use hot water---hotter than hands can stand? (2) Any particular reason why you use a dryer, instead of...

How long do your drying towels last?

It seems like some are saying that washing my towels with a good mf detergent will prolong their useful life. Have folks found this out to be true? I suppose it would be worth the investment if I can get this result. I honestly don't see a lot of grime on my drying towels, and hardly any on my...

How long do your drying towels last?

For $180 I might do that when I win the lottery. I wonder how long those things last?

How long do your drying towels last?

You know I've seen others talk about special soaps for their drying towels. I never wash mine, it is wiping off rather clean water off a clean surface, so I just rinse it out and hang it to dry. The only exception would be if I drag it along the bottom of the car, and pick up some dark...

How long do your drying towels last?

I just bought a new drying towel for my car washes. I have been using for the past 2.5 years, the Meguiar's waffle weave towel. Although it has worked well, for the past 2-3 months, it has gone downhill. It could still wipe water off the paint and onto the ground, but the towel would get much...

    Grit guard routine

For anyone who wants to buy ANYTHING on AGO and support this great site, they are having a 20% off sale. You can see it at the top banner when you go to the store. Plus, i was only charged $5 for shipping.

And you are helping, believe me. Like I said, I just am trying to support AGO, and I will, with other purchases.

    Grit guard routine

Just got an email from customer service. They do not sell gamma seal lids separately. OK, no biggie. I still have a couple of items I'll get from AGO store. I do believe in supporting this place; this is an excellent source of information and experience. Just not to the tune of $35 for the lid...

    Grit guard routine

You were just about to talk me into buying a gamma seal lid, when I looked in the store and saw that they didn't sell any individually. Interesting idea, but I don't want to pay $35 for a new bucket that I don't need, along with the lid. I'll probably improvise with something from my garage. I...

    Grit guard routine

Now that is an interesting idea. I'd never have to dry out my wash mitt and hang it up in my bathroom. Something worth thinking about. I wonder if putting a chenille sponge in water 24/7/365 would be bad for it or not. Probably the soapy water would be good---its hard to imagine mold or slime...

    Grit guard routine

Good point, I did see only a very little amount of dirt in the soap bucket the two times that I drained it into the sink. In fact, when I was pouring out the soap bucket just now, I was thinking that I could easily have washed another car with that same water. So I think I'll just put in a bit...

    Grit guard routine

In my last thread here, you guys talked me into using two buckets, and a chenille mitt, which I got and used this morning. Two washed cars later, I have another question. I used my grit guard in the rinse bucket. I placed it in, and rubbed the sponge against the grit guard, and then rinsed it...

Next step in reducing risk of scratching paint

Folks, you have given me some very good direction here. Much obliged.

Next step in reducing risk of scratching paint

Toss the junky sponge--why? Because it will hold on to dirt and then scratch the paint with it when it goes back onto the surface? And while we're at it, is that chenille mitt that I linked to, good for our purpose here? I'd rather not buy it just to find that 6 mos later, there is something...

Next step in reducing risk of scratching paint

I have a 98 Honda Civic and a 2005 Toyota Sienna. Not sure if either of those are soft, medium, or hard paint. The 98 does have a year old Maaco job (which has held up quite well, btw). Well I have to say you are making a very good case for all that. Still not sure I want to use a leaf blower...

Next step in reducing risk of scratching paint

My towels are rinsed off, and then wrung out and hung to dry, then put into a ziplock bag until used again. And I do have a dedicated sponge for wheels. But I suppose I could use a different one for top and bottom parts of the car, although both of the cars' scratches were on the top areas (hood...

Next step in reducing risk of scratching paint

This last week, I just saw a few scratches in both vehicles, a day or so after washing. They were very short and straight, and one was in the back door, so its unlikely that this was caused by rocks hitting the paint as I'm driving. I'm not 100% convinced that they were created when I washed and...

Using alcohol to clean up sap on car paint

There was no colored paint on the cotton swabs I had dabbed with alcohol, although that doesn't mean it didn't hurt the clear coat. I found so many detailers talking about using it I didn't worry about this. In fact, there was no dirt or any grime at all on the swabs, even though the sap had...
