2008 Mercedes E55 AMG White Calcite correct and clean.

Nice work on the AMG, good to see one getting brought back to life! I wouldn't get discouraged at all on the "90%". I've run into some people with high-dollar, but driven cars think that a detail means "brand new car"- meaning that they think that afterwards everything is going to be absolutely...

    What Brand

As others have suggested, you really can't go wrong with either 3D/HD or Blackfire. But, as much as I like HD Adapt, Speed, and Poxy (which is quite a lot)... I would personally suggest Blackfire. I've always been impressed with how well all the products just plain old work- the SRC duo has...

Start of a major project! '00 Audi A6 Avant- Pic Heavy!

To take care of the HVAC system- I actually disassembled the entire dash, floor venting, and center console venting... basically the whole system as far as possible. I then used a brush and some OPC to scrub and wash out all of the vent tubing, reassembled, and also used steam afterwards through...

Leatherique PSA - awful user experience, but at the fault of my own

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. The seats in my AMGs are partially perforated as well, so here's what I do: Apply somewhat liberally to the non-perforated parts, and then when the applicator/towel is just mildly damp with product, lightly go over the perforated parts. I say somewhat...

    Holy Griot's BOSS G21 fail

Ouch! This reminds me of seeing axle c-clip failures at the dragstrip, which causes the axle shaft and wheel to fall off... it's never pretty. The good news is, Griot's has an excellent warranty. I'm glad you got lucky in regards to any potential paint damage.

    Menzerna

Myself personally, whenever I go as far as wetsanding paint, I use a wool or purple foamed wool pad before switching to a foam pad. You may not be getting the gloss you're after because the foam pads aren't aggressive enough in your case- as you've found, it's taking quite awhile to remove the...

    Are people really this cheap?

People are very cheap, but you get what you pay for. I remember people coming into the body shop I used to work at asking how much a repaint would cost, and throwing a fit because Maaco, etc. only quoted them a few hundred while our estimates were well into the thousands. Their $8 bug spray or...

Start of a major project! '00 Audi A6 Avant- Pic Heavy!

Thanks for the kind words! So far, I'd estimate I have 25-30 hours of actual detailing time in. I have quite a few more into the car as a whole as I'm doing much more than just detailing, it's pretty much a reconditioning of the entire vehicle. I would say that by the time all is said and done...

Start of a major project! '00 Audi A6 Avant- Pic Heavy!

Thanks, guys! It's been a lot of late nights, especially going over all the fine details like polishing the wood on the dash and console, as well as tracking down all the little knick-knacks that are broken/missing. I feel it will be worth it in the end, though!

Start of a major project! '00 Audi A6 Avant- Pic Heavy!

Time for another update! I've been plugging away at this thing in my spare time, I've had a few surprise projects lately so I haven't gotten as much done as quickly as I had planned to. I've started paint correction, utilizing the test spot method to dial in my product and pad choices. Here's a...

    Layering protection... ??? ...

Like the others above, I believe in using one good coat of a single LSP and leaving it at that. The only exception to the rule for me is the Blackfire Wet-Ice-Over-Fire (BFWD/BFMS), as I like the final look it gives regardless of the protection it leaves, whether diminished or amplified.

    Uro-Tec pads giveaway

I'd like to try the 6" on my Mark II 15. I've never used B+S pads before, and I'm curious as to how they would act vs. the LC Thinpros I currently use.

    Autogeek- Exceptional service!

I just wanted to give a big thank you to Nick and all the folks at Autogeek, you guys are truly the best! :dblthumb2: A little back story- I placed an order a couple weeks ago, got my package, and noticed that the bottle of LM Leather Vital had leaked a bit. Not a whole lot, but enough to make...

3D HD Polish with what Lake country pad??

I'd go with a 5" backing plate and a 5.5" pad with a PC. As far as which white pad from LC, take your pick of styles: Flat, CCS, Hybrid, or my new favorite and current recommendation- Thinpro pads. All of these lines offer white pads that are similar in composition. If by the off chance you're...

3D HD Polish with what Lake country pad??

HD Polish has some cut to it, so the LC white pad will get you where you want to be. An LC black pad has zero cut, the only thing I really use it for is Menzerna 4000 or 4500 (now Menz 3500/3800 respectfully).

    Post Your Unpacking Pictures

I haven't used a Rupes white pad yet, so I can't offer anything there. The Gloss pad is very soft, and I'd compare it to a black LC pad in that it offers little/no cut. The best feature in my eyes is that it has the blue dense foam layer, so it distributes pressure much better than most pads...

Start of a major project! '00 Audi A6 Avant- Pic Heavy!

Time for an update on this poor thing! I've had the interior basically completely apart- seats, console, door panels, dash- cleaning every piece and nook and cranny I can find. I found quite a few stains on the carpet, so I hit them with some Folex before using an extractor. I had all of the...

Best wet looking wax for the price?

For the price range, I'd go with either HD Poxy or Meguiar's M26 Hi-Tech Wax. The latter is available OTC at some Autozones, and both give a great look. They're both easy to work with- apply a layer, wait 20-30 minutes, and buff off.

Blackfire Wet Diamond Polymer Spray as a drying aid?

You'd be better off doing this when the car is dry- I tried using it as a drying aid once, and ended up with more streaks than I liked. Using it afterwards, however, eliminated drying streaks when there were some left over. It keeps the BFWD nice and slick, though.
