Dr . G's mf pads were my only foray into this arena. They worked well and there is a learning curve. They quickly became aluminum duty pads. Worked well but not worth the effort in the long run because I could have cut with the rotary and finished with foam more quickly. But hey I was new to AGO...

Yes. If you go too abrasive then it's possible to remove the powder coat. Also from my experience you can dull the Finish.
