Trying to clean up some oxidation

The most common thing said around the AutoGeek forums, start with the least aggressive product and work your way up. There, I said it. If it were me, first I'd try a cleaner wax, and I have Meguiar's D151. You might find their cleaner wax equivalent in the local auto store. After that, work...

    Paint gauge measuring

Another note to consider, the less expensive gauges read on metal only. So any fiberglass or plastic parts, like many bumper covers, will not give a reading.

    Our "tools" are important.

For the last 7 years, since I've been detailing professionally, I've gone the route of less expensive shoes from Rack Room, Super Shoes, ect. I'm impressed if a pair lasts me a full year, but I'm usually just paying $40-$70 for a Sketcher, or Docker, or a Teva sandal. From my previous career in...

    Leather scrub brush question

I find the best tool to clean off that top layer of dirt on leather is a Magic Eraser with APC. Always keep in mind, you can scrub too aggressively and they may do damage to older leather.

FLEX 3401 on its way out

Plus 1 for sending it to Powerhouse if you need a refurbish. I've sent mine there several times with great results.

Need Opinions: Used Car Value w/Full Detail

A simple wax or All-in-one cleaner wax would be the way to go. The majority of buyers wouldn't notice or care about all of your time spent claying and correcting the swirls. Looks great so far!

    Ozone Generators.....do they really work?

Good advice. According to what I've found, like from the Air Resources Board in California (arb.ca.gov), they can't even be sold unless the ozone levels emitted are so small it's virtually ineffective as an air cleaner. There's still a lot of gray area for me, to say the least.

    Ozone Generators.....do they really work?

I've been researching these lately as well. Prices from $39.99 to $699! I don't mind landing in the middle somewhere if I can charge an extra $25-$50 per detail to help pay for it. But it has always sounded like a gimmick to me, "magically turn on this machine for an hour and viola!!" I'll be...

    Question for fellow professionals

I agree. Most of the new cars will be sold before the dealership, or the lot washers, will do too much damage. That's still a tough question to put a number on. You never really know where the swirls came from. Was it the dealers detail guy who first washed it off of the delivery truck, or was...

    polishing headlight help?

I doubt you'll do any damage with your polisher, PlastX and an orange pad. If that doesn't remove the damage your looking to remove, and you proceed to something stronger, and also move to a more aggressive machine, then sure, you will eventually get to a point where you may cause damage to the...

    Question for fellow professionals

Maybe you can reword the questions. Are you asking what percentage of work, like paint surface correction, comes from a dealership messing it up?

Another "How much would you charge" (Out of curiosity)

I read the original post to say this was just a wash? Minimum of $50. If you can do that in 2 hours by yourself, that's movin'. Nicely done.

    polishing headlight help?

A dual action with a small pad, say 3" or 4", is a great way to get a clear finish. Much like polishing the paint. PlastX won't hurt the lens, unless maybe you pull out a rotary buffer and turn up to speeds around 3000 rpm!! Apply a sealant to your headlights just like you would apply a sealant...

Looking to try something new for tires.

In reading the many suggestions, because I need a new tire gel myself (no thanks to Meguiar's discontinuing D163), it seems the coatings might NOT be a product for my business. ??? I'm sure the majority of my customers won't be reapplying, so I'm worried about the peeling and flaking.

Is it easier to scratch/marr/swirl car with a DA vs by hand?

The machine will be your best Christmas present to yourself. Go for it! Watch the tutorial videos and you'll be fine. I personally think your at less risk of making rub marks with the polisher. Use moderate speeds and soft pads, no need to buy into the correction polishes and compounding pads...

DIY LED Work Light (much better than halogen!)

I've always found metal flake, in most colors, to hide the swirls. And without sounding like I'm sending you to the eye doctor, it does take a little time to "train" your eye to see the defects hidden in all of that flake. That being said, it's easy enough to add a cheap halogen spot light to...

POLL - What's the number one most important factor when it comes to polishing paint?

Although I rate them all VERY important to a great result, TECHNIQUE makes all of the others perform their best.
