Purchasing a Flex XC3401: Could Use Some Help with Pads

Excellent and helpful replies, thank you all. I think I will go with the 6.5 first and the 5" a little later, since my travel trailer and truck have a lot of surface area to cover.

Purchasing a Flex XC3401: Could Use Some Help with Pads

In anticipation of ordering a Flex (upgrading from GG 6") I have been reading a number of threads on this forum regarding pads, specifically size. Initially I was getting the idea, the 5" would be a better choice for first timers on this machine and was thinking this would be the way to go...

    Vac/Blower

I have the Metro Master Blaster that blows warm air and have found it to be an advantage over a previous blower and leaf blower I had than did not blow warm air.

    Grit Guard Question

Maybe. I have a bucket with grit guard I purchased from AG and the grit guard fits snugly as it should, but I also have another 5-gal bucket I purchased from Lowe's and the second grit guard I have does not fit snugly.

Aye, good tip there, I will have to try it.

    Dog hair?

I vacum as much as I can with a shop vac and then use a rubber brush very similar to this. If there is a lot of dog hair, I also use the rubber brush and vacum simultaneously.

    Griots or Flex Input

So I am guessing from your reply, the time savings is not significant? I would like to realize a time savings, especially where my travel trailer and pick-up are concerned, but if it only amounts to a few minutes, then no it would not be worth the extra $$$.

    Griots or Flex Input

I was searching posts on the Flex and came across this thread which interests me, hence the revival of an older post. I am interested to know from those who have experience with both the GG and Flex, if the Flex would be worth the investment for me? Some background, I am not a pro detailler...

    cleaning/waxing truck roofs

I am in the same boat. For washing I use a step ladder (being careful placing it next to the truck) for polishing and waxing I use this Portable Detailing Platform & Workbench - Griot's Garage It is pricey, but has a larger surface are to work on, can be raised higher than others I have seen...

303 Aerospace Protectant for coating RV

Aerospace 303 is great stuff, but personally I would not use it on fiberglass/gelcoat. Not because it would cause damage, but because if I recall correctly, Aerospace 303 recommends re-application about every 5-weeks, where as a good coat of wax should last 3-months plus. I have a TT and I wax...

Griot's Garage DA vibration too much, now what?

I noticed the same with my Griot's 6" the first couple times I used it, I blew it off as needing to improve my technique. The last time I used it, I switched to 5" pads and also improved my technique, one or both lessened the vibration considerably, but still noticed some vibration. I guess...

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

As mentioned we brought our TT in to the dealer on Saturday. The service manager was not there, but the tech who took our TT in, indicated he thought they would repair under warranty as they have done others and recently. In fact there were 3-others on the lot just completed. He indicated it...

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

Good points and no it should not oxidize this fast and so say the many others with exactly the same issue. I plan to discuss this with the dealer this weekend. Besides it oxidizing so soon even with a quality marine wax applied twice during the last year, it also frustrating when I finished...

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

Thank you Puckman. So this prompts another question. Considering gel coat is so tough and a rotary seems to be the best tool for the job, how much danger of damage would my inexperienced hands be in on gel coat with a rotary machine? Because of my lack of experience with rotary machines, I...

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

Luckily for me the oxidation problem is only on the front cap, which represents a surface area in the neighborhood of 4x8'. The lower section is painted with a bed liner product to ward off damage from road debris.

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

Thank you again. I do have in my arsenal, foam cutting pads (yellow & orange) perhaps as you suggest along with technique is worth a try. It is also sounding like a compound, followed by polishing, then wax may also be a better option than the Shurhold Buff Magic which is formulated to...

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

Thank you all for the suggestions, I appreciate the help. To Tuscarora Dave, I wondered whether I was getting all the oxidation, even though it appeared as though I had. I understand and get the rotary polisher would do a more thorough job, but I am not sure I am skilled enough to use one...

RV Gel Coat Oxidation: At Wits End...Any Suggestions

I have a travel trailer with a brown gel coat front cap I bought new in March 2014. As with all my valuables, I am striving to keep it looking nice and protect it from the usual hazards. Somewhere between a month and 2 months after I purchased the TT, after a complete wash, I used Collonite...
