This one is for anyone who says a DA can't remove swirls...

Forgive my ignorance but if there is a "camp" that believes a DA can't remove swirls then what the hell is it for? I certainly don't need a $120 wax applicator. This is the first I've heard of this so I'm a bit perplexed. I've removed easily-visible swirls by hand with SwirlX and UC, so why...

    Carnauba over sealant??

Best way to find out is to test it out yourself. You wont defeat the purpose or adversely affect either if you use it in the right order, Sealant > Wax. Get a good sealant, let is cure for 12 or so hours. Then hit one portion or one half of the car with a carnuaba and see if you can see the...

Review: Optimum Car Wax (OCW) v2 Spray Wax

Thanks guys. I just started using AutoGeek recently and have been truly impressed. When Meghan said she would send samples, I was not expecting what I got. I felt I should return the favor.

Review: Optimum Car Wax (OCW) v2 Spray Wax

Product Review: Optimum Car Wax v2 (OCW) December 2009 First off, thanks to Meghan at AG for the test sample of OCW. You did your part so now I will hold up my end of the bargain. Introduction So, first of all, what is OCW? Optimum Car Wax is spray wax from Optimum Polymer Technologies...

    Shamrocks Don't Rock

I got a couple of shamrocks a few weeks ago during the BOGO, and mine shed lint too (they have a black border). I talked to Dwayne and he said it should clear up after 2 or 3 washes. Well, it hasn't. It's especially bad when I'm quick detailing my windows or plastic trim. Don't like them and...

Buffing out the Lubricant after Clay Bar

Clay one small section at a time panel by panel, making sure to wipe off any residue as soon as you're done with that section. If you're using adequate lube and quality clay, stubborn residue should'nt be a problem. Since claying is so infrequent, it makes sense to do a quick wash again after...

    porter cable or griots garage

So what is the difference between the PC 7424XP and the "Ultimate Detailing Machine"? They are selling those things for 30% off and I'm thinking about getting one. Is it not the 7424 XP with a gimmicky name or is there more to it than that?

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

I think I will go over it [yet] again but this time I will be more rapid/aggressive with the clay I have. I hadn't seen where a rapid (similar to polishing) motion was used with clay so perhaps I'm just being too wimpy. Thanks for the tip and I'll report back.

    Product Review: DP Wheel Glaze

One thing I forgot to mention. Do one wheel at a time. I made the mistake of applying to all 4 wheels and then coming back to buff off. Well, if you let ti dry too long, it wont be a breeze to remove. On my other car, I worked it one wheel at a time and found it about as easy any normal wax...

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

Well, if you still have some of the Mothers clay, focus on a very small section of your trunk or wherever you feel the grit. Do the plastic bag test, then clay using slow steady passes with slight pressure. Then do the bag test again. I eased up on the lube as well since I was using ONR at QD...

    Product Review: DP Wheel Glaze

The only problem I have with the DP Wheel Glaze is with the description of the product. It states that it will creates an anti-static coating that "repels" brake dust. It says so very blatantly, however, that is far from accurate. I drive a BMW so there is heavy brake dust, however, I was...

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

See that makes me wonder if more aggressive clay will work. In my case, my car is 9 years old and the paint is not in stellar shape. However, in your case, that sounds very odd. Where do you live? Perhaps it could be the environment? Anyhow, I'd like to be certain the more aggressive clay...

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

Good question. I would like a suggestion on which clay to use next. I don't know where the Mothers kit falls in terms of aggressiveness.

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

That was my thought process when I focused on my trunk lid and I do test a small area before I spend the entire day on the whole car. I actually learned that by reading your articles. Thanks to all. It's cold here (in GA cold is 60 or lower), so this may have to wait 'til Spring...

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

Can I expect UC to be more aggressive with a polisher though? I thought 205 was roughly the equivalent of Ultimate Compound anyhow? I dont want to buy any more polishes until I get a polisher and see what I can accomplish with what I have now. Make sense?

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

Correction: It's actually the Mothers clay kit, not Megs. I cant see the grit, but I can see etched water spots and scratches (not swirls). I cant see any more contaminants coming off but, yes, I'm kneading often. No, the car has not been repainted. I did a Megs UC and SwirlX polish but it...

    Paint Still "Gritty" After Claying

So I recently clayed my car with Meg's Smooth Surface kit. I saw it removed a good bit of gunk and the paint felt smooth afterwards when I ran my hand across it. However, I did the plastic bag test where I stuck my hand inside a clean sandwich bag and ran it across that way. When I do this I...

Light Color Pain / Wax Or Sealant

Oh, as far as a glaze, i wouldnt bother with it unless you wont be polishing out most swirls. On silver paint, I've read that a glaze makes minimal difference on a well prepped silver vehicle. Wash, Clean, Polish, Seal, then Wax. Or you could skip the sealant if you wax often.

Light Color Pain / Wax Or Sealant

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a Titanium Metallic Silver BMW and I'm looking to elevate the gloss. I'm using NXT 2 now and with UQD, it looks pretty good. Very bright and shiny, but not deep and glossy. It's difficult to get light silver paint to show depth and gloss but I'm about to...

    Matte, low gloss tire dressing?

I recommend Meguiars High endurance tire gel. I got the higher shine version but they do make a lower gloss I believe. Actually, the high shine that I used isnt as shiny as those cheap silicone types. I found myself slopping on a bunch to bring up the shine so you may like it. I would...
