Review: Makita PO5000C Orbital Polisher - Gear-driven and Free Spinning - Mike Phillips

I finally finished my jewelling on the Mercedes S Class Coupe. Very pleased with the Makita 6000C .. imo its better with the 5” pad, rather than the std. 6” in the UK. Makita UK kindly got in a batch of 5” pads ... very customer focused :):) For me the tool seemed a good deal at £230. Seems...

How best to wash and protect for a lazy guy with no garage?

Until my garage is clear ... I just snow foam it , power rinse, then rinse with filtered water. Then I wool mitt wash 2 panels, clay and rewash and then blow dry those panels and follow by 3 coats of Collinite 476s on the 2 selected panels. Took 9 day on a Mercedes S Class Coupe. Then I...

    Ultra High Gloss recommendations please

Thanks Tony 3 coats of Collinite seems to turn a sharp Silver into warmer silver ... must be the Carnuba ? Think its just the lighting making the blue tinge. Not as reflective as the above black car :/- Today is a sunny day (with bonnet done yesterday wing 2 days ago, so now a bit dusty...

    Ultra High Gloss recommendations please

That looks excellent. When you say .. “the key is in the polish.” Are you saying I need to up my game on getting a better polished surface? ( I certainly wont be offended .. I am here to learn and improve) Regarding mirror like reflections. Do Black cars when polished perfectly reflect...

    Ultra High Gloss recommendations please

Appreciate the explanation, as a newbie I was scratching my head. It looked fantastic after wiping off the Ultrafina SE, and then as you said sort off muted down the wet look shine after the Collinite was applied. Its still good though, and I will live with it for the longevity . Photo of wing...

    Ultra High Gloss recommendations please

I didnt wipe down with IPA , as 3M assured me there are no fillers in Ultrafina SE; but I agree with you it must be slightly oily, well it looks like it when you polish it with a DA.

    Ultra High Gloss recommendations please

I think I saw somewhere a poster talking about a really high gloss wet look wax. At the time I thought thats a waste of time ... Collinite 476S looks Fabulous, why would anyone need more?? However, Having jewelled most of the car with 3M Ultrafina SE and an Ultrafina pad, I was really really...

Would this bodge work? Adapting my backing pad.

Sadly the German dealer jacked the price of the 5” Makita backing pad from £41 to £79 after recieving my money :( and having heard nothing from Makita UK for 3 weeks since requesting they start selling the 5” Variety I am trying to make the use of the 6” 3M Pads on the Makita 6” backing pad...

Collinite hazing after a few days

I use Collinite 476S ... never had this happen. brilliant stuff. But I put it on thinly, and dont leave it till its hard to wipe off. Beads well for nearly 6 months ... low mileage 3,000 p.a. Washed weekly. Note I blow dry the car , so am not scrubbing off the wax with MF towels. Car left...

Help: Can't take advantage of durable waxes/sealants due to dirty paint

Wash, clay, jewel polish 3M Ultrafina SE, then Collinite 476S (Collinite lasts well for 8 months ) and still has some protective coating 11 months later! Normally left for 6 months, the beading is very good then. Illness made the long trial mandatory ... I was shocked anything was left on it...

Anyone use the Rupes white Ultrafine soft 180mm Pad? Code 9 BF180S

I am looking for a pad to machine apply Collinite 476S every other month ... so I dont want any cut. is yours very very soft to the touch or just soft? Or does it feel slightly scratchy? Apparently its Rupes softest, least cut pad. It works very well speading this wax, but I was surprised it...

Just got my Makita PO6000C 6” Polisher ... and a few questions ...

Hi Mike thanks thats pretty much the plan. Just waiting for the back to heal, and the 5” backing pads to arrive, as the four 3M blue ultrafina pads are too small for the 6” BP. But the Rupes 180mm white Ultra Fine Polishing pad fits the 6” BP nicely . pretty much got everything ready now, and...

Just got my Makita PO6000C 6” Polisher ... and a few questions ...

That is precisely my point on the Makita, nothing touches the backing plate! So raising it with a washer would not make any difference. Hence my interest in this “fix” .... is he proposing inserting a washer somewhere else in the guts of the drive mechanism.? Surely not, over complexity and...
