Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Thanks for the tips, especially the pad cleaner. I am hoping I can use my airgun 300 Bar cylinder just turned on a tiny bit ( otherwise it would blow a hole in the pad lol). Not ideal but saves me buying an 8 bar compressor. Must confess I am not sure how an airline would blow a pad clean ...

Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Nice idea Sadly MB are very secretive about paint ... wont even tell you the 3 thicknesses, primer, base and clearcoat. Best I could find was what they called “in spec” for paintwork warranty claims.

Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Thanks for the tips Hmmm when I bought her I was told they used an extremely tough anti chip, self healing 2 pack paint on the car, ... they salesman wasnt sure if it was just in the bumpers and skirts. :-/

Could my Makita DA help perfect my home brew chip repair process?

Good point, obviously as this is my first polisher previous tactics precluded the sanding option ... I may have a big rethink on this repair routine.

Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Thanks for your info. The 3M techy said the 3M products didnt break down, like say the Meguires DATs ( quoting they owned Meguaires). So I guess they are SMAT. I only wanted to kniw as I am looking to take off the absolute minimal amount of clearcoat. And being a newbie, yes I admit I am...

Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Thanks for the info. I did pick the 3M range, hopeing, that they would produce quality stuff, correct level of research behind the formulas etc. The techy at 3M said that one Pad would do the Mercedes S Class Coupe for each level of cut or polish, but to buy a two-pack just incase, when using...

Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Hi No I am not looking for a one step process. In a way I prefer the route if picking the least abraisive possible and if it works thats great, and if it needs more agressive attention, then move to a more agressive pad and polish. Luckily the S Class Coupe has what I call nice “glassy flat”...

Newbie ? Whats the advantage of using Diminishing Abrasive Polishes ?

Having seen a Kevin Brown video where he says one has to work some polishes until they break down the abrasive particles until they are at their smallest. I am a bit confused, by this technology. I understand that, the 3M Polishes that I bought (Perfect it III Extra Fine and the Ultrafina SE...

Could my Makita DA help perfect my home brew chip repair process?

My chip repair process is simply buy a Mercedes touch up box ( 2 tubes of one basecoat with an integral brush and one clear coat with an integral brush. Wash and Clay around the chip, wipe with IPA. let dry. Then transfer basecoat from the integral brush to an uber fine natural hiar artists...

    Wax and water spots question..

We live in a very hard water area. If you wash it its impossible tomdry it before you get some white hazing. My solution is to rinse off with filtered water 2ppm! And blow dry it as soon as you finish washing. Its so bad I even use filtered water in the car wash! The best product I have found is...

Could a FLEX XFE 7-12 80 Owner please check the backing pad dimensions please?

Yes the 7-12 80 .. would be a great complimentary polisher to the Makita I only bought mine to correct some cement tile-cutter dust, that attached itself to the car when it rained. Fortuneately multiple snow foam washes detached it, so I only really needed the Makita to gloss up any fine...

Could a FLEX XFE 7-12 80 Owner please check the backing pad dimensions please?

Thanks so much for measuring everything. The recess looks a bit longer, but should fit. Bad news it uses a 6 mm bolt .... :(:( more work needed to expand that to accomodate the Makita Bolt Very much appreciate the measuring Regards Peter

Which 3” Backing Plates would fit on a Makita PO 5000C / 6000C

I too wondered about the “tippy” effect. But hope I can cope with it. The majority of the car will be done using the 6” and if I can get one the 5” pads. This is really just for around the front bumper, Led running / fog lamps and air intake grill things. The only alternative would be to buy a...

Which 3” Backing Plates would fit on a Makita PO 5000C / 6000C

Thanks for the info. I looked at the LHR as a possible bore out job. But if the hole is in anything like the Makita’s, which looks like spring steel .. that looks very problematic I agree cutting down composite pads also looks like it could give problems. The Flex pad you linked looks hopeful...

Which 3” Backing Plates would fit on a Makita PO 5000C / 6000C

Thanks to all the respondees. Much appreciated. My tardy replies are not lack of interest. But because I just had a pretty tricky back operation. And although prewarned it could be extremely painful for 10 to 20 days ... after 10 days of incessant pain that even oral morphine doesnt touch :( I...

Which 3” Backing Plates would fit on a Makita PO 5000C / 6000C

Just wondered if anyone has found any 75mm backing pads with an 8mm bolt that would fit my machine. I am hoping the Flex XFE 7-12 80s might fit? any other suggestions? I was told that maybe the Rupes LHR75 Mini plate might fit, but I think that takes a 6mm bolt? Alternatively could one cut...
