List of things every detailer should own and then some

Any reason for having the $600 festool vac on your list? Don't get me wrong I love festool tools for woodworking. But If I wasn't wood working I would never buy one. Especially since you already have a wet/dry vac.

    Ya'll See This?...

I really like the trim coating so far. Had it on my Jeep Grand Cherokee now about a month and a half and still looking new. A ton of plastic to coat.

    Extension cord

People using the wrong gauge extension cords because of lack of knowledge has made manufacturers of high current drawing things put the no extension cord warning. I guess one too many people tried using a standard $10 cord and either blew up the device blaming the manufacturer, or something...

    Extension cord

The longer a cord is the more resistance and voltage drop it will have. You're running expensive machines on this cord, usually an extended period of time, and multiple times if you're detailing cars part time or full. With a 10gauge cord you never have to worry about the cord again. It is as...

    Extension cord

The extension cord would need to be 10 Gauge to run the mytee lite at 100ft. The Mytee draws around 15amps I think with the heater on and vacuum. To be safe and prevent damage to anything you need the 10/3 gauge. And that's running one of those tools at a time.

    Surbuf with DAT compounds question

If the car is a daily driver I would finish polish it and be happy with it. Without a gauge on a 13 year old car I would be hesitant to keep cutting the clear to remove more scratches. You may get rid of them but be left with thin clear preventing you from polishing out any imperfections later...

    The boat detail

A rotary would speed the process up quite a bit. It would let you tackle boats that are more oxidized than that too. The boat looks really good. It cleaned up nicely. For boats in that condition with your DA try the new lakecountry thin foam wool pads: 5 1/2 Inch Thin Foamed Wool Pad (2-Pack)...

What do I do about rust spots on my car?

By rust spots do you mean rust that has formed where the paint has chipped away a little bit? For small chips you can use a fiberglass pen to clean the rust up some before layering the paint from the pen, then coating clear in coats until its a little above the surrounding area. Wet sand...

The use of M105 in hot weather (dusting)

M105 does dust quite a bit. Keep a bottle of ipa mix handy to do a wipedown of the panel to remove oils and leftover compound. Being that you sealed the spots in with the Wolf gang you're going to have to strip it with a strong ipa mix, surface prep product, or other solvent. Are the spots from...

Educate me on compressors for MF pad cleaning / cooling

For just blowing out the pads most small compressors will work. The two common available ones are oiled and non oiled units. Non oiled are cheaper but don't last as long, they're a little louder as well. Oiled units have a longer life and are a little quieter. With an oiled unit though you need...

School me on marine grade vinyls?

I use diluted all purpose cleaner like meguiars apc or purple power. Spray it on the carpet, agitate it with a brush, then extract it up with a wet dry vac. Let it dry well then I apply 2 coats of the 303 fabric guard.

The carpet won't become as soaked, it resists stains, cleans up easier, resists damage from uv rays.

School me on marine grade vinyls?

After a thorough cleaning and being coated with the 303 water shouldn't leak through. The never wet system will change the color of your canvas to a frosted look and isn't as durable. Plus it's $20 to cover 10sqft You can use the 303 fabric guard to coat your carpet as well and help with it...

School me on marine grade vinyls?

That one works by heating the air. In hot florida I'm not sure how well it would work. Dehumidifiers like this one I keep in my boats cabin work much better. Danby Energy Star 30 Pint Dehumidifier DDR3011 It has the ability to remove much more moisture.

School me on marine grade vinyls?

Yeah the sol-air vents aren't very durable. Marinco makes one called minivent 1000. It's around $100 but it's supposed to be much more durable. If you can run power from the house a dehumidifier would be fine under the cover if it's treated.

School me on marine grade vinyls?

If the boat is outside under the cover look up the Sol-Air vent for covered boats. It's a solar powered fan that helps and costs $35 Another thing, When is the last time you treated the boat cover? It needs to be cleaned and treated every few years to maintain the water repellant. You should...
