first attempt at detail... did NOT go well

I completely agree with the above. I also tried the Chemical Guys V-line and their Hex-Logic pads and failed miserably. I switched to Menz FG400 and LC Hydrotech pads, and the results were AMAZING. Not all pads/products are created equal, and certain compounds & polishes will react...

Grit guard ... who needs em

Has anyone seen / tried the new CG version (they call it the Dirt Guard). It seems interesting and even comes with a filter element. Thoughts??

    Need Polish Between Menz FG400 & SF4500

LC Hydrotech pads work great with Menzerna compounds and polishes because these products are water-based and thats exactly what the pads were designed for.

    Huge fan of shiny tires

A tiny bit, but that was after the first usage and I may have gone a little heavy on application. Wiped off real easy with some waterless wash.

    Huge fan of shiny tires

I'm a fan too. Currently using CarPro PERL (undiluted) on my tires for an extremely wet look.

what am i doin wrong? still minor scratches left

Are you doing it in that exact order? If so, it seems like you might be using 205 & 105 in the wrong order. You should be using 105 to correct, and 205 to finish.

what type of pads do you own the most of

I use LC Hydrotech pads because the compounds/polishes I use are all water-based. I have them in both 5.5" and 4". I guess the 5.5" Hydrotechs would be considered "flat," but the 4" Hydrotechs are by no means flat, they are very thick.

Went from no chips to micro chips in paint

Rick, Does it look like the below pics? I took the pic from a different thread on this forum, and yes, it was on a Mercedes (2010). It's starting to seem like this might be a semi-common thing with Mercedes paint. I'm really hoping this is still just a normal defect and not some type of...

Went from no chips to micro chips in paint

:iagree: I have the same condition on my 2011 Mercedes. I would also describe as them as little "pinholes" or "tiny craters" (sound right?) In my opinion, BlackHawk is 100% right. If there are any sections on this car you have not corrected yet, look very, VERY closely at the paint...

Looking for good wax and sealant

I would think that is more closely related to Menzerna Power Lock, since they are both sealants, not waxes. Color Lock is a carnuba wax.

    CG V36 not cutting it

If the FG400 finish was almost LSP ready, I don't think you need to go with PF2500 since you're really not trying to correct any marring induced by the FG400. I'd move right to SF4000 or SF4500 to finish with for a high gloss shine.

    CG V36 not cutting it

I had the same problem with V36. Go with the FG400 like I did. You will never look back.

    Favorite Rinsless, Waterless Wash?

I don't do rinseless, but I do quite a bit of waterless washing. For waterless I like UWW+ the best. It has great emulsification and buffs off really easy and streak free. Leaves a very high gloss shine and a slick feel behind. As far as towels go, I use either the 16" X 16" 600 gsm Extra...
