My opinion and limited knowledge is that as long as you keep your pads clean, it won't hurt your paint. Additional pads are to help complete the job faster.

I agree with both of you. I'm relatively new to this also and I'm only using my GG 6 every few months on my wife's car and my truck. I'm going to do 3 pads of each color and spend a little extra time cleaning them with a pad brush in between sections. Pads are expensive and I can't justify...

Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm not sure yet. It's an aluminum cover with a baked on paint. It's got a texture to it, so I'm not going to be concerned with getting a mirror shine on it. I just want something to protect it. I might put KSG on the cover also.
