Local detail shop's prices and an overall rant/future outlook

Quick note on my background first: I've been a detailing enthusiast since I bought my first car, 15 years later and I'm just beginning to detail for-profit. I'm not advertising, just getting business by word of mouth, which is all I can handle currently, as work 50-55 hrs/wk at my day job. All...

    F150 King Ranch Full Detail

Quick intro: I've been a detailing enthusiast since I bought my first car, 15 years later and I'm just beginning to detail for-profit. I'm not advertising, just getting business by word of mouth, which is all I can handle currently, as work 50-55 hrs/wk at my day job. All of my business has...

Looking to make another investment (polisher)

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Now, to reply to individual posts: Can you (or someone else) enlighten me on how a rotary is quicker than say, the Flex 3401? For instance, say I take a heavily swirled car with harder paint. I'll use my Flex 3401 w/ a LC Force Hybrid Grey (heavy...

Looking to make another investment (polisher)

I’ve been detailing as a hobby for quite a few years, and just recently began detailing for-profit. I started with the older model PC7424, I believe it was marketed as a sander? A few months ago I picked up a Flex XC3401, which I paired with some LC Force Hybrid pads. This tool has greatly...

    Home Based Legitimate Detailing Business?

^^^ this! After years of detailing my own vehicles as a hobby, I recently started detailing for-profit. I started small, first a co-worker's car, then another, then my neighbors, and word got out. Needless to say, if I wanted to continue this route, I needed to become legitimate. I looked up...

    Flex 3401 & WGUC issues

Mike, thanks for the quick reply! The pad is the LC Cyan Hydro-Tech, which came with the ultimate polishing kit that I purchased from Autogeek. Would you suggest a thicker pad? Negative on the oxidized paint, and depending on the panel (it's an FX35 and has a lot of curves/body lines)...

    Flex 3401 & WGUC issues

Hello all, I recently recieved my Wolfgang FLEX XC3401 ultimate polishing kit order from AG, and today was my first day using the 3401. This tool is amazing! Now, on to my question: I began with the 5-1/2" LC Cyan pad and WG Uber Compound 3.0. I spritzed the pad with the WG pad conditioner...

What would you do? (possible damage from detail)

I detailed my friend/co-worker’s car last week. 1 step polish/wax + full interior detail. I cut him a pretty good deal as I usually do for friends/co-workers. We didn’t discuss it prior, but I went ahead and detailed the engine bay as well. I’ve always detailed plenty of engine bays on both...

Being more efficient during a detail

Awesome suggestions guys! Another thing that really cut into my time was neighbors. I live in a small cul-de-sac area, and have to work outside as my garage is too small to fit a car and work efficiently. I had no less than 3 neighbors stop by and talk to me for at least 10 minutes, admiring my...

Being more efficient during a detail

Another thing I forgot to add, which occurred quite regularly: hose & extension cords getting stuck under the tires when moving around the car. Forcing me to either walk back and move the hose or get it unstuck...or plug in the extension cord because it became disconnected. I’m going to say...

Being more efficient during a detail

I’ll start off by saying I’m by no means a pro detailer. I’ve been detailing for about 12 years or so, but never for profit, usually just my vehicles, relatives, etc. I recently detailed a co-worker’s vehicle, and he compensated me for the job, he also suggested I make this into a part time gig...
