No you don't need to wait of 12-24 hours before shoe polish because i am also using CG Leather Cleaner for my shoes and also in cleaning of my car seats but i use on urgent base
i can't understand why you ask about if this is best process of cleaning so can you explain meaning of 12-24 hours...
