The Post a Picture of Your Ride as it Sits Thread

This is why I like Sonax BSD... after driving all week with daily showers, plus two separate 50 mile round trips on the Florida Turnpike in the rain last night, the shine is still there! Then while out today it rains again. Very little sticks to the sides of the car. I think I’m going to keep...

First Detailing Attempt - Need Assistance

Not necessarily true, if anything, clay introduced it's own set of swirls and haze. Another possibility given the age and exposure to sun all these years.. there's oxidation going on, and as the clay and polish remove some of the oxidation, it leaves the surface looking uneven, since you've...

First Detailing Attempt - Need Assistance

Hand polishing is better than no polishing at all. In fact I hand polished all my cars for the first 30 years of my car care regimen, one bucket washes every 1-2 weeks, and Meguiar’s cleaner wax by hand 2-3 times yearly. Clear coat remained intact on my 15 year old Infiniti and 17 year old...

First Detailing Attempt - Need Assistance

Claying your car can scratch the surface of the paint. If there's substantial contaminants in the paint to start, the clay dislodges it and you can potentially introduce scratches and swirls, and leave the paint looking hazy. Normally the lubricant helps minimize scratching, but if there's a...

    Bead Maker

That right there. I did my wife's black Taurus' hood with BM and BSD side by side, and the BSD side definitely showed more depth. The BSD edged the BM in water behavior and beading, but not by much. BM is a good product and relegated to my older vehicles only because I want the enhanced water...

Nice! Blackfire and Sonax is a winning combination for me as well! When you start on the Civic and Equinox, definitely do a test area, like one half of a door panel, so you can see the difference even a minor paint correction can make. And post pics!

    Can't Remove Fingerprints

Check if it's something on the surface of the glass... take a blade and scrape at an angle almost parallel to the glass and see if it scrapes off.

Black spot hell on White paint

What is your car care regimen? I ask because it looks like mold and mildew on paint (on the road film on the paint) that's not regularly washed.

Help me find a replacement for BSD

Thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly give this a try. Gotta figure out what N914 and D114 are, but in this world of “googling” I should have figured out in the next 15 seconds or so. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Help me find a replacement for BSD

After I wash my ride, I really enjoy having a sparkling dirt-free finish. I'm not looking to add slickness, but for a product I can use between washes that won't diminish the performance I see with PNS. In my opinion, BSD and PNS behave very similarly. I use the BSD every 4-6 weeks mostly as a...

Help me find a replacement for BSD

ScottH... you're correct the BSD and PNS are both equally grabby, but the difference is that PNS is once in 6 months, while the BSD twice monthly. One of the features I really liked about BM is the ability to use as a quick detail spray, not sure the SiO2 is intended to be used as a quick detailer.

Help me find a replacement for BSD

... to apply on top of Sonax PNS. I've been happy with the Blackfire One Step, Sonax PNS and a BSD wipe down combination over the last year, but now that the BSD is almost done, it's time to replace it with something more user-friendly. I'm getting a little tired of the grabbiness, I love the...

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I had big plans to detail my daughter's car since she was home from college for a couple of days. In the past 18 months, 19K miles, the car's only seen 3 applications of Meg's Ultimate QW, so I braced myself for an application of BF One Step, PNS and BSD. Well after getting through with...

Sonax BSD Application - Why is it so difficult?

Yep... applied BSD on a humid Sunday this weekend and I was cursing to myself the whole time. As mentioned above, I switched to a short nap towel for applying and a long nap, and very dry MF to buff, and that made it a little easier. Took longer than usual but the car sure is shiny! BTW, I...

Sealant product recommendation: Looking for durability, longevity, hydrophobic properties, appearance, and ease of application

Sonax gets a vote from me as well. PNS, topped with BSD every other wash. I've never used anything as hydrophobic as these. But.... application is not slick and easy. It tends to be a little grabby, but WELL WORTH IT!

    Car attracts dust more now

Using BM as a drying aid is about the same as using as a topper, only slightly more diluted. I too have found BM to be a dust magnet, but have also seen it become almost like an oily film when left untouched on my DDs after about 10 days or so. I thought my wife had stopped next to a diesel...

Are we making things worse by using multiple products for topping up?

About 6 weeks ago I came to this conclusion myself. Decided to give BeadMaker a try, super slick and glossy, applied on top of my BSD treated Lexus. So hit the Sequoia with BF One Step and topped with BM... not really slick at all. Stopped halfway thru and sprayed Megs Ultimate Quik Wax over...

    Durable Spray Sealants

I second the BSD, the best I've used so far. Not the easiest to apply, but the shine is great and it just keeps the car cleaner longer.

    What’s this paint blemish/defect?

I found specks like that on my 2002 Sequoia and i couldn’t figure it out either. I finally decided it was the Rain-X bottle slipping and laying flat on the hood, and a few drops spilled out, then left on the hood for weeks on end. I wasn’t using the Sequoia much at that time so it’s possible...
