Re: Thin is in... New Lake Country Hydro-Tech Low Profile 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads Does appear to be cheaper - $7.99 vs. $9.99 - if they're better and cheaper, you can't beat that! Thanks Mike for letting everyone know about these pads!

    Pads Molded

I don't know if mold will affect the pad's performance; but I put a pad away before it was completely dry and got a couple of mold spots. I cleaned the pad 2 or 3 times and that removed the mold - I'd rather be safe than sorry - some additional cleaning certainly wouldn't hurt

Applying product too thin or just right?

:iagree: I think this is a case where the manufacturer would rather under promise and over deliver - good marketing. If the manufacturer says you get 15 applications, and you get 20, you're happy! If the manufacturer says you get 15 applications, and you get 10, you're not so happy!

top o' the mornin to ya

I'm relatively new to detailing too, but more information is needed. What condition is your paint in, and what do you hope to accomplish? Keep one thing in mind - it's always best to start with the least aggressive pad / polish combination that you think will yield the desired results, and if...

    Clay disentegrates during use

I've used Meg's clay with Meg's QD many times and never had the "break up" problem you described. I've experienced the streaking you described using various clays, but I've attributed that to the use of too little lubricant - the problem was eliminated with more lubricant. Was the clay...

Taking the plunge (on a budget), getting a Griot's 6"...how does this plan look?

Thanks Mike, I really appreciate the good and timely advice. I guess I didn't realize when I posted to this thread that the 'new' GG polisher was much different from the one I had, other than I noted it had an adjustable handle. As to the usefulness of this older polisher, because the paint on...

Taking the plunge (on a budget), getting a Griot's 6"...how does this plan look?

Well I guess this is part of being a newbie, but I've come to the conclusion that if you own an older Griot polisher - the one I have that secures the backing plate with screws - you are limited to using the 6" plate that came with the machine. I talked with the Griot rep and he said he wasn't...
