Tools and Products that Save Time?

Have you tried Flat Top from shine supply? I know it's not sold here, so won't post a link, but I've heard great things about it. It's the next compound I will be trying in my ever evolving quest to find exactly what your looking for. M101 works quite well BTW, but dusts like crazy and smells...

    clarifying gauge cluster plastic

M205 works quite well on most clusters that I've come across. They do scratch quite easily though, so be careful with them!

    best paint sealant for detailer?

BFWD gets my vote, easy and quick to use but provides an awesome finish, definitely if you polish first. A little also goes a long way.

Transitioning from weekend warrior to full time

That sounds like a perfect option! If your able to work for someone you know, they might be able to work around your schedule better too. Just make sure that your up front with them on your intentions, and they if your business really takes off, that's your first priority. But for the meantime...

Shade in the summer or warmth in the winter??

Oh yeah, I'll make sure to post something up once the paperwork is signed. Since its brand new construction, I should get to have some say in how the space comes together, so I may be asking for some suggestions along the way.

Shade in the summer or warmth in the winter??

Thanks, it is pretty exciting. Lots of stuff to do before anything's final, but things look like they're progressing, so we'll see :dblthumb2:

Transitioning from weekend warrior to full time

See if you can go down to part time at the job, that helps soften the blow so that you still have some income coming in from that, but have the ability to detail more, thus making more money. This is the route that I took 8 years ago and it worked very well for me. Good luck with it, that's an...

Shade in the summer or warmth in the winter??

So, 4 south and 4 north.... That doesn't help me :) I actually just heard back from my leading agent who just heard from the builder, and they would prefer me not washing outside and would rather build a drain into the flooring (the space is just under beginning stages of construction) so I...

Shade in the summer or warmth in the winter??

Hey guys, looking at a couple potential options for my new shop. Curious on your alls opinion. Place #1: my washing area would be south facing so I'd deal with direct sun in the summer, but extra warmth in the winter. Place #2: my washing area would be north facing, so shaded all summer, but...

Considering making big business changes, would appreciate input

Yup, know exactly what you mean, I'll let you know how it goes as I don't really have much of a choice with winter lurking its ugly head just around the corner, it's close to time I get my act together. Glad it's going great for you!

Considering making big business changes, would appreciate input

That's awesome to hear that you've gone almost strictly shop based and it's working out for you. Maybe a year from now you'll have to get a shop and/or employee to help you out as the business continues to grow!! I'm in the process of looking for a shop myself (not really a useable garage at...

    Mobile Generator Recommendations

Did you get a shop, or are you doing it all from your garage now Mark? I had heard that you were thinking of scaling back the mobile side of things, but didn't realize you were going to stop completely. How has this affected your business so far? I'm very interested to hear about it (sorry if I...

    Very disappointed in Meguiar's D149

That's unfortunate on your end, too bad you had a bad experience. I love using Meguiars QID and only use the gallons. Had you used it in the past and new what it was supposed to smell like?

    Mobile Generator Recommendations

The HHR is an awesome little rig for one or two man mobile operations, especially if you score a panel version. I absolutely love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything else on the market. I love that I can drive my "work van" and it feels like I'm driving a car. People always stop and ask...

    Adhesive tape for reapplying emblems

I read an older thread on here that the stuff in the tube can negatively affect the paint? I'd like to just use a glue if it works best, but don't want to cause damage to a customers car.

    Adhesive tape for reapplying emblems

I haven't reapplied emblems before (only taken them off) but have a customer who would like one put back on. It's the front Mercedes logo on a 20 year old car and the original adhesive has given up. Is this my best option 3M Super Strong Automotive Attachment Tape - 03614 and anything specific...

    New Start up

Where abouts are you located? You mentioned that you were planning on having a fixed location, do you already have a garage that you'll be working out of or will you be renting something. If renting right from the start, it could be tough with the overhead involved and not really any prior...

    Branching to a fixed location

Thanks for the response, yeah your shop sounds ideal in size, I think I'd want something at 1000 sq ft for an absolute max, but would rather be in the 600-800 range. I don't want to pay for space that never gets used. I've thought about the storage unit idea, but that just seems like it might be...

Shop Owners - Any tips in selecting location?

Wow, that sounds incredible!! I'd say I can't wait to see all the pictures, but that'll probably just make me want a shop even quicker. 2500 sq ft is pretty good sized, but it sounds like you've got some pretty good plans for it! Congrats on the major achievement in your business. You guys do...

    Branching to a fixed location

Thanks so much for the response Ryan, I have read through all your posts about transferring over to a shop from mobile and it has been encouraging. There are a few others on here that have done it as well, but not many. My main goal is simply to find a place with low overhead with decent...
