Preventing hood chips...what do you recommend?

I have both. I think the answer is that it totally depends on your car. Deflectors can work well if the aerodynamics of the car cooperate. On my small SUV, I have actually seen debris on a collision course with my hood or windshield change direction suddenly when it hits the deflector...

Good to know I'm not alone in feeling this way - will try out the request for paper on all future orders!

    Jumbo's Engine Bay

Hi all, Wanted to start a thread for my engine bay. I've always been afraid to just attack the bay without some guidance. To this point I have limited my detailing attempts to a Quick Detailer and a MF. I have ok results - see posted. But I'd really like some product suggestions and even...

    Pinstripe eraser

It's only a problem if you never get around to it! I have several projects that I buy the materials for, then sort of let them sit till I'm ready. The pinstripes have been bad for more than a year - I guess I finally became bothered enough to take care of it. The good news is that it's a lot...

    Pinstripe eraser

After a while it would bother me too much and I would have to remove them as well. When I get my eyes about 6" away from the surface, I can see a faint shadow where the pinstripe used to be in some areas. Its more obvious in some areas and not at all present in others. The shadow is a...

    Pinstripe eraser

Surprisingly, it didn't harm the surface. No swirls, scratches or marking of any kind. I used Meguire's Ultimate compound to clean up the area, then I used Klasse AIO cleaner/polish/wax. I was prepared to use my 7424 with Sonus SF-1 or SF-3, but neither was needed.

    Pinstripe eraser

The eraser is made of rubber. Smells a lot like a pencil eraser when you abrade it with friction. Correct speed - used eraser looks like pencil eraser shavings - the powder you see in the photos. When the speed is too fast, the eraser melts and smears onto the paint surface. In this photo...

    Pinstripe eraser

This is a painted on pinstripe and not a decal. There are no adhesives, although that didn't stop me from first trying Goo Gone and 3M spray adhesive remover. They did nothing. Neither did a heat gun or plastic scrapers. The wheel wasn't my first attempt to remove the stripes. Compounding...

    Pinstripe eraser

Over the years of ownership, my 2004 Infiniti FX35 has worn off some of the pinstripes. I decided I'd prefer to remove them entirely, rather than restore (repaint) them. So I bought a pinstripe eraser on Amazon for about 12 bucks. Using the proper speed is critical to the eraser. Too...

    Clear bra removal

Well I guess I'm partially successful with the eraser. There is definitely a learning curve - the rpm speed is pretty important to how well the eraser works. Too slow and nothing happens. Too fast and the rubber starts to burn. In either case, clean up was as simple as a duster and a...

    My modest before & after.

Agreed this is one of the worst I have seen as well. If the price was right I would have trashed the interior and replaced it with junkyard resurrections. I think you did an amazing job - it looks great. But what lies underneath the apparent clean surface bothers me. Not sure I could bring...

    Clear bra removal

Thanks Bob, I'll use them as required. Most of my motivation for detailing in general is to be able to do these things myself. Learning is part of the fun for me. I know that could mean I do some damage, but then I just have more practice in corrections! Couldn't hurt to call and ask for...

What is your favorite One-step polish?

Never tried the ones suggested. I'm about half way through my first bottle of Klasse AIO. Applied both with a DA and by hand on different cars - can't complain about how easy it was to use. As long as the paint has a nice polish, the Klasse leaves a nice gloss.

    Clear bra removal

Steaming, huh? Makes sense, I guess. My plastic razor blade scraper arrived on Saturday. Hopefully the eraser wheel arrives before the holiday weekend. If I can't make decent progress with this method... steam will be my next try.

1995 Brilliant Black Mazda paint woes

Guess I am going to have to learn this one for myself. The apple of my detailing eye is an SUV and there is just a lot of surface area to cover. I've been using the 1/8 microfiber buffing method till now - trying to speed up the process since I already have a DA. Last weekend I did clay...

    Clear bra removal

Great minds think alike - I ordered these the day before you posted! I'm really banking on an eraser wheel. I really hope it's a miracle worker.

    Clear bra removal

Found several helpful threads on removing a clear bra and tried everything suggested in those threads. Unfortunately the clear bra on my car has been on there waaaay too long and there is just no taking it off the ways that are suggested. It has dry-rotted on the car - cracks are visible...

1995 Brilliant Black Mazda paint woes

That's the plan! Picked up 3M 3000 grit paper this week and I ordered the 3M heavy cut rubbing compound. I may try the 3000 grit paper with the products I already have at home if the compound doesn't arrive by this weekend. I also bought a lambswool leveling pad and microfiber bonnets to add...
