Have you tried kneading the clay an extra bit? Sometimes excess lube can cause it to crumble or fall apart.

Bought some on BoGo too. Only thing being, I wont be using it on my car. Says it changes lsp to sheet more reather than bead. I perfer beading as of now. I am intrested to see how it acts on other cars that aren't maintained as well. Where the lsps are starting to fail.
