    A Chicagoland get together?

Are we thinking the end of July, or later into August? Speak up people.

    A Chicagoland get together?

Ideally I'd like to get 20 people committed to this, with a date nailed down as soon as possible. For those who have put their names on the list, what days would work for you?

    A Chicagoland get together?

Please add your own name to this list if you're truly interested in attending. It will be must easier to keep track of. Can we agree that weekends are best? How does the end of July work for most people?

    A Chicagoland get together?

Lets get a bit more momentum with a list of names of COMMITTED individuals, determine a rough date based on availability, and work from there. I have an idea on a location, but I'm not about to start wasting someones time if this doesnt happen. I was thinking a weekend towards the end of July.

    A Chicagoland get together?

I might be able to come down, depending on the date. My brother has been on my case to take a weekend off and visit him anyways..

Experimenting with Megs D151 - 2001 PT Cruiser

The Tangerine foam is a very light cutting foam, comparable to the LC white, I'm sure you would have gotten much better results using a Cyan cutting pad, and it should still finish out fine for you.

Just didn't get the results I wanted

Your tools and products are what is holding you back. If you don't want to spend more money on supplies there isn't a whole lot more you can do. You could polish out the entire car by hand, but the results won't be nearly as good as what you can achieve with a DA buffer, and it will take...

Just didn't get the results I wanted

4-5 washes and waxes over six years really doesn't qualify as being 'pretty well maintained' by my definition! Your hand wash and clay bar is a great start, nothing wrong here. When you say 'orbital buffer', are you using a common "jiggle" motion buffer that you can get for ~$30 at most auto...

Clearcoat failure, is it ok to polish?

Good point Akimel, if your step daughter's car is as bad as the neon, it might be better to take Akimel's advice. But if this is more of a learning experience with 'what will happen' just do whatever you please!

Clearcoat failure, is it ok to polish?

If it isn't flaking yet you should be fine, just watch it carefully for any signs of flaking and avoid areas that begin to flake. A flaky faded clearcoat looks better than a big burn mark on the hood, although it's black so it really wouldn't make a drastic difference.

    spray wax

Rsurfer, how do you apply OCW? When I try to use it I can't seem to get a haze free finish no matter what! I want to like it, I should like it, but as it is I try to avoid it. I normally use a Meg's Supreme Shine MF to apply, should I use something with a little more nap to it?

Will 3M double sided tape ruin paint?

I'd be more concerned about the screws than the tape!

    Hello from Wisconsin!

I've been lurking and posting a bit, and it was suggested to me to post an intro so here I am! My name is Connor Harrison, hence the CH in my username. As much as I'd rather not admit to it, I got my start detailing at a local dealership. I was 16 at the time and didn't know jack ####...

Have you ever messed up a customers car?

Oh yes, I should probably post an intro! Thanks for the welcome Wills.

Have you ever messed up a customers car?

I no longer even attempt to do any sort of correction to clear bras, I only clean them. I don't like them either, but they do serve a purpose. A clear bra can take some serious abuse compared to paint, and although it might not look as nice on a day to day basis, you can rest assured that the...

Have you ever messed up a customers car?

On my own car, I've burned through the paint in a couple of areas. Once on the leading edge of the driver's side fender, and on a spot where the clear coat flaked off (not surprising!). I use my car as my test subject (99 Nissan Sentra), I often get comments as to how I keep it looking so nice...
